Workers laid off from their jobs at a Chicago factory have occupied the building and are demanding assurances they'll get severance and vacation pay that they say they are owed.

About 200 employees of Republic Windows and Doors began staging the sit-in in shifts this week after learning the plant was closing Friday.

6. That didn't take as long as I thought.
But I have been predicting it for a while now.

Stay safe, brothers and sisters. You will have no friends amongst the members of the police unions.

11. Hah...
Look up the history of the UE (United Electrical Radio and Machine Workers of America), sometime. They are the best, and they were once the biggest.

12. Oh, I'm not disputing that
It's just interesting that people see a "solidarity" thing here, when basically it's about getting the last paycheck before yet another manufacturer goes tits up.

They're not rallying to keep the plant open, right?

16. and so it begins,
now we'll find out why the troops are on American soil and we'll find out who's side they're on right quickly. We already know where blackwater and the police forces stand. As soon as no trespassing/keep out signs go up around the factory being occupied, how long do you think it will take for the authorities to take back for thier masters?

Damnit, they killed people at Kent State years ago and it was blamed on the people killed for being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Now it does begin, hopefully the new incoming administration uses its' power wisely cause we know what the previous one thinks.

Peace.

18. We shall see and we can hope that the new administration will
not allow violence against protesting citizens. Even police and soldiers now have unemployed relatives. Unemployment was nowhere near these numbers in the 60s.

Link to a video about the occupation of the building.
