Combo of weather and poor farming techniques. I was surprised to learn it was partly human-made.

7. DIdn't see Amanpour's show but at least with the dust bowl
the dust reached Washington while Bennett was there. Why do governments always reactive rather than proactive.

6. Often times forgotten is that
right in the middle of the Depression one of, if not the hottest decade ever recorded, combined with a horrible drought and some unenlightened farming practices created the dust bowl years in the Midwest. This on top of the ongoing financial crisis finish off many of the remaining farmers and small towns of the era.
