1. I voted the "they don't care" option...
...but I'd add that they not only want the money for themselves and their friends, but that it's important to economic royalists that only they and their friends get the money. They would't enjoy being billionaires if everybody was a billionaire, they want to be better than the majority of society.

3. I think the ideologues at the heart of the right wing movement
are literally "royalists." I think they want to restore/implement a feudal monarchy.

14. Of course, this poll implies that the right is a monolithic bloc
I'm sure you can find individuals on the right who want all those things. I was talking about the people who bankroll the conservative movement, the corporate CEOs and media moguls, without whom the Republican party would go the way of the Dixiecrats.

17. I was just talking about a few zealous ideologues in this particular post,
not the entire republican party, DLC, blue dog Democrat, New Democrat and Libertarian right wing movement.

4. I think the right wing hates the idea of the seperation of church and state
The right wing hates the idea of a government that is kept separate from religion - particuarly their twisted version of Christianity. They want to do to us what the Taliban did to Afghanistan.

5. A return to the 1950's.
Where dad was bringing home the bacon. Mom was baking cookies for the kiddies. Juan was trimming the hedges. The USA was the baddest bully on the block. "Negroes", and women, knew their place. Where the American Dream was to own a shiny new Pontiac and house with a nice lawn. A place where the people actually believed that Washington never told a lie and got teary eyed when they heard the national anthem.

A non-existent Golden Age where conformity was applauded and being a "good citizen" required blinders and ear plugs.

10. Yup. Their ideal is a version of "Father Knows Best".
Of course, they certainly wouldn't complain about lynchings, blacklists, and more nukes.

23. The ones at the top don't care.
The people at the top couldn't give two shits about traditional "family values" or race or anything else. the only thing they care about is Wall Street and their banking buddies. They just use gullible "values voters" as pawns in their scheme.

11. "Yes, we have no bananas"
But, we bought up all the land in the Dominican Republic to grow them and when the soil went sour we moved on to another country to impoverish.

7. A Theocracy
Of course, they would not want to live under a theocracy themselves, but no worries, they would live above it, like the sheiks in Saudi Arabia.

A theocracy can impose more hardship on the people than any other form of government because it automatically has Gawd on it's side, no matter what it does.

21. Each individual has a unique agenda,
Edited on Sun Dec-07-08 07:59 PM by leftofthedial
but I wonder if the heart of the neocon, supply-side, Friedmanist, Straussian, repuke, libertarian, DLC, New Democrat, blue dog, corporatist, monetarist, anti-union, class warfare, greed-is-good right winger beats with a common purpose.

That is, assuming there is a heart there at all.

19. Plutocracy for them. Theocracy for the rest of us.
If you're familiar with Leo Strauss this is exactly what he espoused. He openly advocated for a state religion and for the need for the ruling class to lie to and misinform the populace.

29. Yes. Totally agree.
It got too close for comfort these last eight years, at least in terms of theocracy. I'm afraid our "ruling class" as of now is a plutocracy.

26. No such thing as corporate socialism. Socialism is the working class taking control of the means of
production. What you're describing is totalitarian capitalism.
