According to a New York Post report Sunday, Senator Ted Kennedy is reportedly supporting his niece as the replacement choice for Hillary Clinton in the Senate.

The 51 year-old daughter of President John F. Kennedy has reportedly spoken with New York Gov. Patterson about the position and is said to be favored for the two-year appointment.

An early backer of the candidacy of the new president - equating his character and qualifications to that of her famous father's - Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg has demonstrated her willingness to stand up in Congress, if appointed, in defense of Democratic values and initiatives with the publication of her 1991 book, 'In Our Defense: The Bill of Rights in Action', and her 1996 book, 'The Right to Privacy'.

She is the vice chair of The Fund for Public Schools and a member of the national board of directors for the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund.

She helped raise over $65 million for the city’s public schools during her tenure (2002-2004) as the chief executive for the Office of Strategic Partnership for the New York City Department of Education.

Mrs. Kennedy also served as a member of the advisory committee vetting vice presidential nominees for Barack Obama's presidential campaign.

Sen. Caroline Kennedy. I like the sound of that.

"Everyone seems to be salivating because Caroline Kennedy called David Patterson and is apparently interested in the Senate seat being vacated by Hillary Clinton.

It's a truly terrible idea.

Her leadership could have been really helpful when the rest of us were trying to keep the progressive lights on and getting the stuffing beaten out of us by a very well-financed right wing for the past eight years. But when things were tough, she was nowhere to be found.

Now that the Democrats are in power, she'd like to come in at the top. We have absolutely no idea if she's qualified, or whether she can take the heat of being a Kennedy in public life. She's certainly shown no appetite for it in the past. She'll have a target on her back and if she can't take it, if she crumbles, she will become a rallying point that the right will easily organize around.

The woman has never run for office in her life. We have no idea how she'd fare on the campaign trail, or how well she could stand up to the electoral process. She simply picks up the phone and lets it be known that she just might be up for having one of the highest offices in the land handed to her because -- well, because why? Because her uncle once held the seat? Because she's a Kennedy? Because she took part as a child in the public's romantic dreams of Camelot? I'm not quite sure...."

and the resentment of some 'entitlement' she would supposedly be getting out of this.

I think she's demonstrated enough of a commitment to public service and Democratic principles in her life's work to make her appointment much more than an entitlement.

and I have to ponder what type of "experience" they have that is valuable to ME?

The list really goes on and on of Senators that make you wonder how the fuck they got to be where they are and leave you scratching your head "Why" are they there?
Along the same lines, having Caroline run for the Senate makes me ask "WHY NOT"?
There is NOT one good reason she shouldn't.

and it was far too short.

The others tried, but tragedy struck at different levels.

Considering some of what we have in the Senate now,
