Poll question: Worst act by the social conservative/culture warrior/religious right political movement
Edited on Mon Dec-08-08 12:44 AM by Pushed To The Left
What do you think is the worst crime against the people committed by the domestic social conservative movement? I'm not talking about the neoconservatives or the economic conservatives. I'm talking about the hardcore religious right/culture warrior crowd.

1. Anti-intellectualism.
It's behind everything.

And why none of their followers can figure out what's going on.

2. I have to agree with that. The anti-gay stuff the Catholic church is doing
is horrendous. But, they won't get very far with it if we had a more vigorous, critical populace.

5. The anti-abortion freaks are the ones I fear most
Bombing clinics because women want control over their bodies...sounds a bit like something that would go on in the Middle East.

6. Blindly following in lemming-like, lock-step fashion anything that the
conservative, Christian goons tell them.

Lack of individual thought.

7. Making street corner Bircher ranting mainstream "discourse"
That ostentatiously pious, ultra-jingoistic, nakedly contemptuous, God-is-against-you schtick was something everybody used to laugh at. You couldn't do it and expect to be taken seriously. Now it's the default mode for media, politics, and the teeming millions of dittohead nation.

9. The so called war on terror
Endless war leading to war profiteering at home and loss of all credibility internationally.

10. War against reproductive rights
These thugs aren't just against abortion: they want to outlaw birth control as well. I think it goes along with their loony attitude toward GLBT people too. They believe that sex for anything other than reproduction is against God's Law.

Their God at least. Mine's a whole lot more compassionate - and this overpopulation thing really bugs Her.

11. The worst thing they've done IMO is to enable the economic conservatives.
Edited on Mon Dec-08-08 01:41 AM by ContinentalOp
Their social ideas are on the wrong side of the inevitable march of progress and I think they're ultimately a slowly dying breed. Even if they successfully overturned Roe vs. Wade or passed a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage, they are going to lose in the long run.

But the radical right wing economic policies that they have enabled have damaged our country, at least for decades, possibly permanently and irreparably.

13. Correct. The whole "social conservative" movement is just a front for the economic conservatives.
The whole purpose of the "culture war" is to get working class people to vote against their own economic self-interest.

and convincing all their followers to vote for him.

16. I have to go with the passing of Prop 8.
In a year where almost the entire country took a big look at it self and proudly swung to the left, these assholes managed to pass a hateful piece of legislation in the liberal state of Caliornia. Their success keeps me up at night wondering what they are going to do next.
