I'm ditching ATT.NET totally this week. What is the best free email service?

gmail? hotmail? yahoo? others?

I need to get out a new email address so that I can finally tell AT&T to kiss my shiny hiney. I prefer a service that I can access through Outlook Express.

1. It's hard to beat Teh Google.

My suggestion is to make a gmail address your primary, and send your business spam to a hotmail account.

Check the hotmail account periodically--if you leave it inactive beyond (I think) 60 days, it gets eated.

Yahoo puts ADS on outgoing email. Who the HELL wants to get advertising in their incoming email?

Gmail offers TONS of features like forwarding, POP access (you can use your wonderful Outlook Express)

If you try Gmail then download Google Gmail Notifier for Windows. It runs in the tray and will tell you when a new email arrives. I forward my POP mail from my ISP to my Gmail account so I can check it from anywhere. If I reply to a POP mail from Gmail it will insert my POP mail address in the "from" field. Yahoo offers some of the same features but it has too much advertising. A very annoying thing about Yahoo is that it will not go directly to your inbox. You have to go to a page with ads and news then go to your inbox.

Seriously. I thought gmail was great, and now I'm stuck with it, but it is the most invasive and intrusive thing. Google IS Big Brother, and gmail is its eyes and ears.

They introduced their new mail service last Friday and I really like it. With that said, I would still go with gmail because it is the easiest to use, has the most space available and the calendars are awesome.

13. Use the one offered by your new ISP

with Outlook or Firebird.

You can control spam much more easily and it will be less "viewable" than GMail or other online freebies.

14. Another vote for gmail.

I have my account configured so my email comes to my Outlook inbox, so I'm sure you can access yours through Outlook Express.

However, I think you still need to be invited by a current gmail user to open an account. If you PM me your email address, I will be glad to send you an invitation. :hi:

17. I'm going to vote for Yahoo mail...

but only for the $19.95/yr. premium version. I've used it for over 6 years. Decent mail application, great spam filter, and unlimited data storage.

I hate Outlook, so that's part of my reason. I also like not having all the email on my system. Junk mail automatically deletes, but I clear the spam folder every day myself. I have not had a single non-spam message show up there for over a year.

Their mail application is pretty much a full service one, with calendar and all that good stuff. Also, you can cut and paste from Word into the app and keep formatting.

18. Yahoo works just fine for me.

Do not use Outlook for your internet interface. Download Firefox. That's all I use -- I've even installed it at more than one job rather than use Outlook. Firefox is free, is customizable if that's what you want to do. Yahoo catches all of my spam and I've never had problems with storage or size of files.

To repeat, dump outlook and get Firefox.
