Update on my mother and the fire.
My mother should be released from the hospital later today.

Three of her dogs are confirmed dead. The SPCA recovered two, one of whom is in very serious condition at the local vet. All of the surviving dogs are being kenneled by the SPCA for the time being.

The Salvation Army has arranged housing and clothing for her. We should be able to get her into permanent digs in the next week or so.

There was no insurance on the house and contents. Most of the contents, sadly, were mainly family heirlooms and things from my grandparents, that will never be replaced. Damage is expected to be around $50,000.00 once all is said and done.

I'm going to be running some special eBay auctions of "Queen Victoria" related stuff to help cover the expense for all this. They will be linked at http://www.newadventuresofqueenvictoria.com/linda.php as they go up, for those who would like to check it out.

Thank you all for your kind words and wishes. We're over the first hurdle: she's alive and mostly healthy. Now we have to rebuild.

1. Thanks for the update...
I'm so glad there's a support system in place for her, and that it's working...

How dreadful about the lost dogs...

And the house being uninsured...

My heart goes out to her, and you...

2. link to your original thread?
Some may have missed it. What a tragedy to lose family heirlooms. Glad your mom is improving.

3. So sorry that this has happened, pabsungenis. Hang in there and be strong for your mother.
(I saw Queen Victoria show up somewhere in an academic discussion on Internet comics. Was this a website or a textbook? I can't remember where, but I remember being excited about it. Do try and advertise your auctions other places on the web where people might be interested.)

5. I'm sorry
I lost everything when my apartment burned back in Aug, I understand what your going though now and will go through over the next few months. I was fortunate enough that both my cat and I both were unhurt, I probably would have really lost it if she had not made it. My best wishes to your mother and you in this difficult time.

7. Glad your mom is on the mend
but I'm sorry to hear about the dogs and the damages.

Hang in there. You'll find a lot of help from unexpected sources.

And be sure to keep us all posted. Don't know what we can do but if you think of something don't hesitate to ask.

12. I am so sorry Pab!
By the way, your link goes right to Paypal, quick and easy to donate - wish I could do more.
I am glad the Salvation Army is helping. Despite the thrashing the SA takes due to some discriminatory
policies (which ARE maddening), they DO help those in need. Therefore, I will drop $ into those kettles
(no need to throw out the baby with the bath water). Godspeed to your mom.
