This just seems strange to me.

Article I, Section 2 of the Constitution requires it's members to be citizens of the State they represent on the day of the election.

So legally, these two married people don't even live in the same State!

They were elected before they "met". They are residents of their states, but spend alot of time in the same place. You don't have to be a citizen of a state necesssarily in order to get married in that state. Congress critters can get their way around alot of these issues because they happen to know alot of lawyers.

Now, since they are both in the SEVERE minority within their parties, one can imagine that one or the other is planning on quitting at some time in the future and taking up residence in the others state.

With all of the Prop8 talk lately I stumbled onto the circumstances of this "strange" marriage today.

Can you imagine how complicated their tax preparation is?

That's the first thing I thought of. She'd probably like to claim Florida residency because there is no state income tax. I'm curious if you can file a federal return as "married filing jointly" if you aren't residence of the same state. I also wonder if his income becomes taxible on her California income tax.

5. To derail the conversation one bit, this is another good example of why domestic partnerships are

no substitute for legal marriage. Yes, they can be married while maintaining legal residences in separate states, and why not? My parents lived in separate states (and countries, sometimes) for business reasons for very many years, and they had a successful marriage. Even if these are repubs, they can manage it too.
