Nance Gregg's mom died on Saturday, and I suspect this has completely deranged their household.

I'm sure Jeff is quite busy because of all this, and because he is a very supportive husband...

My condolences to both of them...

Sadly, I never even got to meet my mother-in-law face-to-face, since I had to miss family reunions in South Carolina and Arizona due to work commitments.

I want to add here my own condolences to Nance and her sister (also a DUer). Their mother was an extraordinary person, a strong, independent woman from an America that generally didn't understand strong, independent women.

Eighteen months ago, my mom died mere days after being diagnosed with a rare and invariably fatal cancer. I hope Nance's mom and mine, wherever they are now, are having a laugh together. They've earned it.

My mom's passing is not a time for mourning, but celebration. Having slipped into dementia years ago, she wound up being a prisoner of her own mind.

Now she is free - her mind again as sharp as it was when she raised three daughters on her own, independent in a time when such behaviour in a woman was unique and remarkable.

And now that she is returned to her full mental faculties in the afterlife, she no doubt wonders why her daughter spends so much time on this DU thingy, and is amazed that her erstwhile child has garnered so many incredible people as friends along the way.

Thanks to all of you - your posts are bookmarked in my soul for all eternity.
