what all this bail out stuff is all about. They have to subdue the populace for as long as they can.

My pension (US Airways Pilots Pension Fund) was terminated on 3/31/2003 by a Republican federal bankruptcy judge. The CEO who begged the judge to fuck the pilots was shown the bailout door several months later, with a $10+ million parachute.

3. It might be time for all of us to stop paying our mortgages...
Think of all the money you'd save... hell, I pay $1800 a month... times six... DAMN! I'd have over $10k in six months!

If they are going to keep stealing money from us, I say we should stop the voluntary infusion!!!

Fuckers are on my last nerve!

33. The US govt is on track to spend about 7 trillion dollars on bailouts..
For the financial industry.

That works out to about $25,000 for every man, woman and child in the country.

There is your theft, $100,000 for a family of four..

Edited on Mon Dec-08-08 09:25 PM by wartrace
I realize the government & banks have conspired to steal from "US" the taxpayer. I don't understand how an individual not paying his or her mortgage is going to compensate for that theft. I believe all it will do is force a foreclosure.

If enough people simply stop paying their mortgage a lot of people think it may force the government to do something more directly about the ridiculous position we now find ourselves in, thanks largely to the government and the financial industry.

Thankfully..

Chemotherapy is poison which (hopefully) kills your cancer faster than it kills you, normally you wouldn't give poison to a sick person but sometimes that is what does the trick.

I'm not sure I agree with this particular tactic but nothing else seems to be working, somehow we need to wake up our so called leaders, this might just do it. I'm kind of thinking of it as a sort of societal chemotherapy.

59. There is a big differnce between intellectually understanding something..
And getting it emotionally.

None of the people making decisions for us in government are in danger of losing their jobs/homes, etc so they have little emotional connection to the problems a lot of us are facing.

We have to make them understand emotionally what we are going through, right now they're just playing the usual game on behalf of the big wheels, all you have to do is look at who is getting the really big bucks to see that.

60. They will never understand it emotionally.
How will they feel it emotionally? It isn't their money they are throwing around. Unless they are up for reelection they are in no danger of losing any income. They will always be out of touch. "Getting their attention" by defaulting on loans is not as effective as "getting their attention" through campaign donations.

61. When the big wheels start screaming loudly enough, the pols will get it..
Like I said, I don't necessarily agree with this but we are to the point where I'm not sure what else to do.

Campaign donations from "the little people" mean nothing to politicians, there is a very small chance that will change anything. The only people the great majority of pols pay attention to are big wheels of one sort or another, scare the crap out of the big wheels (and I'm talking far worse than what has been done so far) and they will influence the pols for us, I honestly don't think anything else is going to do it.

30. Yes, I am ignorant.
I am wondering why you should be able to stop paying your mortgage in order to "get even" with the "thieves" who loaned you the money you requested to buy your home? It seems as if you feel that the taxpayers money used to bail out the banks should cover your mortgage? What about those of us who will not have debt forgiven?

I think it's a "swell" idea that you stop paying your mortgage. I wonder what they would do?

Realistically you will lose your house if you stop paying your mortgage. Realistically you will be thrown out of a property if you start squatting in it.

I believe you need a few more years of the real world before you start offering advice to people scooter.

50. I regret responding in this thread.........
I don't understand the concept yet. I have always known landlords to squeeze every penny he/she can out of a property regardless of the fixed expenses. A paid for duplex is going to rent for the SAME rent as a leveraged duplex will. The only variable in the profit calculation will be the landlords fixed costs. No renter will see any reduction in rent if suddenly the owner no longer has to pay a mortgage.

I am hoping someone will explain it to me politely why it is a great idea to stop meeting our financial obligations.

56. I am enjoying the different perspective though.
It is an interesting question. What happens if people just stop making debt payments? I believe it would throw us into a depression that would last for decades. There would be NO lending of any type in our economy, it would revert to a cash only society. I don't see this as a "good" thing. What do I know though?

29. You should really think things through before you hit the outrage button
People need to live in homes, apartments, condos, etc. Some people own them, some people rent them. If the owners don't have to pay extra body parts for the mortgage, they don't have to charge tenants they rent to so much either.

Jesus... a little thought would have saved me having to spell this whole thing out for you.

They hop trains, eat out of dumpsters and squat together
in groups for safety.

And none of them can find a job and have basically given up trying.
Sad fact is, they are not expecting more from the world and
are probably facing reality better than most of us.
