Wounded Knee: Inside The Bunker - 1973 War Between AIM and The US Gov't

“They wanted the American Indian Movement to come in and protect them – the Native people. It was over money. The benefits from a lot of the tribal programs were being used by the Goons, by Dickie Wilson, who was the corrupt tribal chairman,” Foster said.

1. The Indian wars still continue today
We the Indigenous peoples of this continent continue to struggle for our rights as a free and sovereign people and for our ancestoral land base.

4. Things have settled down a little at Pine Ridge, at least.
At least last time I checked. I spent a lot of time working with the Oglalas on the Mni Wiconi project, particularly with two dudes who, if they weren't friends, at least worked well together. One was an old AIM guy and a cousin of Russel Means (and lucky to be alive considering how many dozens of "unexplained" murders there were after the Leonard Peltier incident); the other was a former GOON. Both of them worked their asses off, trying to get the federal government to complete its promised freshwater pipeline to the reservation. (It's still not finished and won't ever be as long as a Republican is in the White House.)

Interestingly, both of those guys were extras in the film Thunderheart, which is a fictional retelling of the Wounded Knee War. According to them, the AIM guys in that film were real AIM guys, and the GOONs were real GOONs. They sort of kissed and made up during the making of the film, and there has been an uneasy peace (as far as I know) since then.

2. i was invited to AIM council meetings in Portland OR in the 70's, they had parliamentary procedure
and their 'New Business' was mostly letters form the People about atrocities done to them by the government thugs.. one letter was about a man who went to the Senate investigation committee and during his testimony the Thugs nailed the door shut on his families house and burnt it up with his mother, his wife and his 4 children.. the letters got worse from there..
