Something like "Millions to buy Merrill but nothing for Republic workers" with appropriately poignant images.

1. The problem might be more with Republic's bosses
than with B of A. Check out the replies to the thread at http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x4614046

I'm withholding judgment on this one. I hate seeing workers getting the shaft, but my own suspicion is that B of A smelled a very large rat at that company and that rat smells like company bosses trying to pull a fast one on both the bank and the workers.

3. Years ago I was personally invoved in...
something that had the same aroma.

Management didn't have a clue how to keep the business going but kept getting loans on receivables-- pretty much hoping for a miracle before it got caught.

When the last bank got the report with the receivables properly aged, and saw over half of them were over year old, many three years old, it simply told the place to close up shop.

Bankruptcy papers were filed, everyone was told they had 20 minutes to clean out their desks, and the place was auctioned off within a week.

No one got paid a nickel.

(and no one blamed it on the bank)
