Students React to Watching Pornography in the Classroom

ACADEMICS: A recent lecture featuring pornographic films and performers resulted in mixed responses.

When Kassia Wosick-Correa finished the lecture portion of her class on Wednesday Feb. 26, she dimmed the lights of HIB 100 and referred to the visual component of the lesson—revealing on the big screen an attractive, tanned, bare-breasted woman in five-inch heels masturbating.

This was no prank. This was the pornography lecture for Sociology of Sexuality, a class where every aspect – even the course number, Soc 69 – takes a head-first approach to the topic of sex.

The pornography lecture – which was more packed than any other week – was planned so that Wosick-Correa would lecture for an hour on the subject of sex as a business, then the class could watch a variety of pornography and students could ask questions from three professional porn stars: Bella Donna, John John and Justin Long.

“That was my first time ,” said another student who wished to remain anonymous. “At first I was like, ‘Oh my God, I am watching porn and there are 300 people around me.’ But, then you get used to it.”

By a show of hands after the viewing, the class expressed that it was the man-on-man pornography, which featured oral and anal sex, that caused students to go furthest outside their comfort zone.

However, the film that clearly caused the greatest vocal reaction was one featuring a food fetish, in which a man stimulated a woman with a strawberry by inserting it into her vagina before pulling it out and eating it.

but it does get kinda squirmy when they start asking you, in 'Information, please?' mode the "Does that really....?" questions...:blush:
Just try to answer as honestly and correctly as possible.

How many times have you watched guys watch porn for the first time, where you're so used to it that you have an anatomy text handy?

5. I shouldn't post late at night...

...just thinking about time I was acting as...er...I guess you could call it preceptor, or mentor for some younger male classmates in college.
As a non-trad student, I was a good bit older than these kids (in their late teens-early twenties).
The 'chemistry' wasn't there, we were just buds, but I figured I had a duty as a woman to give these guys both correct information and some tips on being Gentlemen...and gentle men when they found themselves in a similar situation with a lady with whom they DID have 'chemistry'.

Looking back, the high weirdness quotient has kept my life rather entertaining...:bounce:

3. some friends of mine took a course like this,

all they really got was a semester of a creepy old pervert with a lesbian fixation sharing his video collection and greatly diminished sex drives.

4. i took a human sexuality class (listed under psychology) and it was

fascinating and probably one of the top five best college classes i have ever taken.

it was fun, informative, surprising, interesting, etc etc (and rarely a dull moment)

the textbook was great--along with the videos, films, discussions & guest lecturers

i would highly recommend a class like that.

(i took it twenty years ago--chances are the colleges have cleaned up the curriculum but i would imagine it could still be very good if you get the right instructor)
