Blagojevich indictment-Obama Wouldn't Play Ball
Obama Wouldn't Play Ball

If you look down on page 8 of the Blagojevich indictment, it seems he wasn't happy with Obama since he wasn't willing to play ball.

In a conversation with Harris on November 11, the charges state, Blagojevich said he knew that the President-elect wanted Senate Candidate 1 for the open seat but "they're not willing to give me anything except appreciation. (Expletive])them."

"Harris" is John Harris, Blagojevich's chief of staff, who was also arrested this morning.

We're trying to confirm the identity of "Senate Candidate 1". It appears to be Obama advisor Valerie Jarrett.

1. Jarrett? Isn't she one of Obama's Senior Advisors already?
Why would she want a Senate seat when she has direct access to Obama already?

than advisor. Perhaps she wants to have her own political career.

2. So what happens to the appointment?
What would have to happen for someone else to make the call?

9. The Lt. Governor steps up. A Dem. Quinn
Not very politically astute, but appears to be a decent politician.

3. This explains a lot.
I'd been wondering why Valerie Jarrett didn't
get the seat.

I'm so glad Obama and co. are clear of all this.

He dodged a bullet. I think he knew how all of
this would play out.

One thing about Obama.. he is smart and canny when
it comes to politics.

17. The fact that Obama was able to negotiate the Chicago Political Swamp ...
... and attain success WITHOUT getting corrupted or stuck in the muck is testimony to his character and ability, imho. The GOP (and even his primary opponents) were EAGER to find any instance where he got entrapped in the rampant corruption of the "Daley Machine" ... and were unable to come up with anything besides the thinnest of allegations about Rezco and Ayers. I was always impressed he kept clear of that shit. Those of us who've been on the Midwest Planet for a while have some appreciation for the dirty politics in Illinois, particularly the Daley Machine vs. downstate cronyism.

5. I'm assuming there's nothing at all wrong with Obama expressing his opinion
about who would be good for the seat and why? Even if it was his friend Valerie Jarrett?

I think it's great Obama simply wouldn't play ball with Blago. Heck, maybe he's the one who turned him in on this particular BS.

10. i doubt this lady would have a chance in hell
to be elected to the senate in 2010. there`s several --electable-canidates for the seat in 2010. knowing illinois politics, if the republicans can find a decent candidate for the senate seat all bets are off.

15. Big this one up, it needs to spread as fast as possible.
With everyone's help, it could spread faster than the RNC trying to associate Obama and Blagojevich.
