Senator Shelby is doing everything possible to kill the US auto industry. He will never answer questions directed to how this will help his foreign transplants that the rest of the coutry subsized through free land, tax breaks etc. to set up shop in the non-unionized south. He is one of the biggest liars in congress, with such an obvious bias towards the auto industry. Yet he gets more air time than any other senator. Where in the fuck are the democrats. Are they still afraid to stand up to these bastards on ANYTHING?

Earlier in the day there was some guy on MSNBC who was saying it's unfair to treat the US companies differently than the foriegn companies. I guess he chose to ignore all the assistance the foreign companies receive from their own countries (whether bailouts, tariffs, etc).

Most people on the news talking about the auto industry know no more about that industry that an average person but for some reason are treated like they are experts. I don't get it.

The auto industry down south has companies making money just fine, thank you very much. I don't see how picking winners and losers ins the job of the government and you. The companies making money here, Kia, Hyundai, BMW. Mercedes, Toyota, Honda, Nissan will probably stop investing in the US if they have to compete with the US government.

And why bail out Chrysler? That is PRIVATE equity. If Cerebus won't put in any money why the hell should we? They don't report financial information or anything. How many cars do they make, what salaries do they pay? We know nothing because it is PRIVATE.

As far you your non-unionized south, they pay about $2 bucks an hour less than GM so quit spreading false hoods.

And you union gets what 85% pay for staying home 4 years? Give me a break.

I didn't hear you crying for a bailout of the textile industry. I didn't hear you when all the IT jobs went to India. What is so "necessary" about Detroit car companies?

Chrysler is run by Nardelli. Arthur Blank wouldn't even talk to Nardelli while he was wrecking Home Depot so now we are surprised Chrysler is bankrupt?

I am sorry but you are dead wrong. You want to help Detroit? Go for health care. That is what they say their problem is so solve THAT problem and you will help a lot more of this country than Detroit care companies.

Our country has been buying into the Republican Reaganomics crap for too long. Other countries saw the importance of protecting their industries and companies. The free market ideals have ruined our economy as make nothing except debt.

When Japan and South Korea place high tariffs on US products or place limits on the number of vehicles US automakers are allowed to sell there, they are picking winners and losers. I think it's about time our country practices some FAIR trade and protects our US companies.

I did complain about the textile industry, and the appliance industry, and the electronics industry, and the shoe industry and.... You guys keep falling for it. Divide and conquer. I "won't support that industry because we didn't get the support we deserved". Pretty soon, no more US industries. Beautiful.

I have worked as a supplier in both the auto and appliance industries for 25 years. Now unemployed for the first time in 28 yrs. The suppliers in the south, Visteon, Delphi, JCI etc., are mostly just suppliers. They also supply the foreign plants. There also have been many foreign suppliers who have set up shop down south. But because the volumes of foreign made cars is low, they undercut the northern suppliers to fill out the volume requirements. Without the US auto industry, they all fall.

"ALL" sales are down. Toyota, Hyundai, Honda, all of them. Most of their governments, as also the case in europe, are feeding them with bailouts. Don't hear much about that on the idiot tube. Do you know why? Because they don't want to loose their auto industry.

Wages. I thought union wages were 73/hr. What changed. The south does not make equal wages, nor do they protect their workers. Health care is also substandard. Gimme a break.

Tariffs on cars imported. Not In the US. But on US cars everywhere else, you betcha. That's fair, dontcha think?

No I didn't fall for it. My job went to India in 2001 and the highest paying job I was offered was less than 50% of what I made. The auto union wasn't saying, hey, let's include high tech in the TRA. I got no money for training, no money for an extra 2 years. Zip, nada and sorry I didn't hear you or the union sticking up for us.

Dude,. how about giving you some facts. Are you asking us to believe that Japan has tariffs on Hondas made in Ohio and shipped to Japan? Does GM even make an auto with the steering wheel on the right side to accommodate those customers? Do they make small, fuel efficient cars for countries where they pay $8 a gallon for gas or do they just whine Japan won't buy our Hummers?

Cerberus Capital Management's vast web of investments is becoming an issue in the battle to bail out Chrysler.

Steve Kagen, a Democrat lawmaker from Wisconsin, said on Monday that he would not support any taxpayer money for Chrysler until two paper mills in his state are re-opened.

The mills are owned by NewPage, which is controlled by Cerberus, the same investment firm that controls Chrysler and GMAC, the financing arm of General Motors.

the US car industry's product cannot sustain the high union wages. Period. Consumers are not going to pay more for a crappy car because a union that pays 85% of wages for sitting home made it.

Let the car companies go into Chapter 11 and they will emerge profitable again and save >70% of the jobs in the process.

I just hate what these bastards did to our country. Blows my mind. Hiding in broad daylight the whole time. I have worked for many years with the europeans, they all think were stupid. Sometimes I wonder if their right. But f...them too! Been to europe 60 times. Can count on one hand the number of US cars I have seen in all those years. They all suck on th US titty, then complain about it.

Recently I had one tell me that the US is done, they will make their living off of the Asian and Indian markets. Said the new financial capital will be in Asia, not wall street. Basically abandoning us. That was until the rest of the world collapsed. They'll be back, and I have a memory like an elephant.

anyone knows what would happen if they weren't helped. In a sound economy, there would be fallout
