Rahm Source: Story That He Tipped Off Feds To Blago Is False

A source close to Obama chief of staff Rahm Emanuel is denying reports that Rahm tipped off the Feds to Blagojevich's alleged efforts to sell Obama's Senate seat.

The rumors to this effect have been flying all afternoon, kicked off by a local Fox reporter in Chicago who claimed that he'd received a "tip" that Blago had reached out to Rahm to "leverage" filling Obama's Senate seat.

"It may have been Rahm Emanuel who tipped the scale and made this move as quickly as it did," the reporter said.

But a source close to Rahm emails us that "it's not true," adding that the story is the "result of some overzealous reporting."

It was a fun one, though.

3. As much as Fitz knew about Blago, he didn't need some politician to tip him off

on anything.

but to be successful in a conviction he needs someone that Blago tried to shake down - without someone testifying that Blago or is staff were trying to get them to "pay" for the senate seat the charges will fail - defense can't get them dismissed.

5. Fitz needs to say MORE..and soon

He needs to name names of people involved..and categorically eliminate others as well.

This "cloud" of uncertainty should not be allowed to hang over the transition team as they prepare to take over..

What we need to remember too, is that the "team" has greatly expanded over the months, and there are probably many peripheral new people who may not have been fully aware of Blago's "difficulties"..people talk, and as stories get told and retold, specifics morph into many permutations.

I think people in the "inner circle" probably could have predicted that there would be wiretaps, and would have taken special care to NOT engage Blago or his closest aides, but as the team grew, it's possible that not everyone knew that..

It's impossible to prove you did NOT say something, and reporters know this, but as long as Fitz is vague, reporters will continue to ask the "prove a negative" angle, just because it's fun:(
