3. For the most part, the threads I have read think what Blago did was despicable
Very few here ....may a few tinfoilers think there was any conspiracy. The sentiments that have been expressed overwhelmingly are very negative against Blago, and whatever happens to him, he deserves it.

12. I had to go "elsewhere" today
Early on today I guess I saw one too many - "he spoke truth to power" and BOA had him "taken down" bullshit posts for my tastes too. I took a breather and went to some of my favorite blogs instead. I'm guessing that within a day or two the misinformed/uninformed will up to speed and those threads will dry up quick.

13. Blago's fucking human garbage.
He shook down a chidren's hospital by withholding his signature on a funding bill for them until he got a kickback.

He's complete and utter scum. Worthless garbage.

As far as I'm concerned, the Democratic Party is better off being rid of that son-of-a-bitch.

14. Yep, reminds me alot of when the Admins said posters weren't going to be allowed to mock Tony Snow's
death from cancer - oh, the outrage! Oh, the drama! Oh, the suppression of "free speech"! Why, you would have thought that tastelessly mocking a man's death from cancer was practically the most progressive thing a human being could do on the face of the earth!!!!

I note many of the same DU'ers who were pissed with a capital P over not being able to mock Snow's cancer death are the same ones insisting what the Illinois governor did was either "no big deal," or is some kind of shadowy "entrapment."

Kick & Rec.

None of these other assholes have been indicted. It's selective prosecution.

If they didn't arrest Cheney over illegal contracts that he gave to Halliburton, why should they arrest this guy?

Seriously. I don't get your point.

32. Whining about "selective prosecution" makes no sense. The previous Governor of IL,
a Republican, is currently sitting in a prison cell in Terre Haute--and Fitz put him there on corruption charges.

35. I thought the other governor went to jail for...
...racketeering conspiracy, mail fraud, tax fraud and making false statements.

Did this guy do any of these things? He hasn't been charged with anything like that, or even close to that.

It doesn't make any sense at all to "whine" that this behavior is equivalent. It isn't.

37. I don't believe it. (just a weird thought I had)
What if...

What if this is something purposely drummed up to sting Obama?

I'm wondering if this is some kind of Rovian foul play.

Watch to see what happens to Blago in the end. What if he was given the ok to do this? And what if he was given cash enough to pay for a short stay in prison? And what if he's found guilty and spends either no time, or minimal time in jail?

I don't know. But I'm just spewing this out onto the internets.

Edited on Tue Dec-09-08 09:37 PM by Occam Bandage
You're telling me Karl Rove has been plotting for three years to out a guy who has only geographic connections to Obama, on charges unrelated to Obama, a month after the election?

If that's the kind of plans Rove comes up with, I think we're all pretty safe.

41. I think that many Democrats are justifiably suspicious when Democrats are investigated
in an era when so many Republican crimes are unprosecuted.

This is not to say that no Democrats commit crimes, but part of what makes us Democrats is our skepticism. We are not like Republicans who will jump on the political bandwagon and blow with the prevailing political wind - we need to be convinced. I'm waiting for the evidence to be aired, but right now it does look pretty bad for Blago.

42. This is a poor choice to do that with, though.
Blago is almost universally hated in Illinois (I've seen approval ratings ranging from 8-13%), had blocked up Springfield for years, costs the taxpayers an assload of money in bad financial times by refusing to live in the Governor's Mansion and insisting on being flown from Chicago, and has been under a constant cloud of corruption for years. He is the last person you can defend without looking stupid. I'm disappointed that so many people bought into his "look at me, I stand up for the common man against the big mean banks" stunt the other day.

45. I'm not defending him.
I'm simply saying that Democrats are justifiably skeptical.

I'm certain that there will be very few die-hards defending him even as he is convicted of crimes, but the DOJ should be forced to prove their case thoroughly.

I don't want Blago convicted. I don't want him exhonerated. I want justice served, whatever the end result.
