Uh Oh Wait til the Freeps see this: And now for a world government
I have never believed that there is a secret United Nations plot to take over the US. I have never seen black helicopters hovering in the sky above Montana. But, for the first time in my life, I think the formation of some sort of world government is plausible.

A “world government” would involve much more than co-operation between nations. It would be an entity with state-like characteristics, backed by a body of laws. The European Union has already set up a continental government for 27 countries, which could be a model. The EU has a supreme court, a currency, thousands of pages of law, a large civil service and the ability to deploy military force.

So could the European model go global? There are three reasons for thinking that it might.

First, it is increasingly clear that the most difficult issues facing national governments are international in nature: there is global warming, a global financial crisis and a “global war on terror”.

FT is not exactly where I thought I would read this.

1. Well my husband and I saw black helicopters over Denver in 1999-2000
they were unmarked and a bunch of people dressed in black slide down ropes to the ground along I-76. No mention was ever made of it from the media. :scared: I never thought it was UN personnel though.

3. Well, whatever happens happens.
Some DUers have provided fearmongering worthy of tabloid press in the past too. And for all the talk of inflation, everybody was surprised by the DEFLATION.

Never mind all those times President Bush and co. were planning to abort the 2008 election, 2006 election, 2004 election, ad nauseum, without a single shred of proof.

Stop crying wolf. Besides, chickens stay crunchy in milk. Ever hear of "cornflakes"? The box has a picture of a big chicken on it. What am I talking about again?

4. World government? No thanks!
I believe in international cooperation and multiple treaty agreements working to coordinate shared human rights and environmental concerns. But a world government with actual state-powers would be just another layer of bureaucratic tyranny to worry about.

A good rule of thumb developed by Baron Montesquieu (the guru of separation of powers) argues that the bigger the georgraphic area covered by a government, the stronger the forces are going to be moving that government toward despotism.

A world government would almost by its nature have to be an oligarchy of the wealthy shoving the poor and middle class around (more than they already do). It would be the stuff of plausible nightmares.
