The only tough time I'm having is with the folks (not from Illinois, I might add) who keep on saying this is some kind of political set up or some kind of retribution for Blago standing up for the workers in Chicago.

What to do next. And what to do about the rest of the bums in the Democratic party here. (Sorry, but Richie Daley is next on the pay-to-play hit list.)

I'd like to see Blagojovich impeached asap, if he won't resign. But I have little faith that my state senator or state rep are going to be too responsive.

For the first time in my life I said I would not vote for the Democrat running for state senate from my district. I voted against him in the primary, but he won it anyway (he's been there for years). Guess what: he was running unopposed in the general election. As was everybody else on my ballot. If you live in the city of Chicago, your ballot consists of 30 old time Democratic candidates each running absolutely unopposed. This isn't healthy.

Two years ago, I helped on a campaign to run out the 36-year corrupt alderman in my ward ... and the new guy has been excellent. Now it's time to start familiarizing myself with the state level politicians more ... and trying to organize to run some REAL challengers against them. At this point, I don't even hope for them being progressive: being honest would be a vast improvement.

At least Daley has done some good things with Chicago. Blagojevich completely wrecked and mismanaged state government on top of being corrupt.

20. True. Improvements began in preparation for the 1996 Dem Convention in Chicago

and they have continued ever since. And despite corruption in City Hall, I have to say, all of the city workers I have dealt with have all be courteous, competent and very helpful.

Our next governor will have a hell of a mess to clean up. At least if someone takes Daley's place, outside of the deficit, they will inherit a world-class city with pretty decent infrastructure.

15. stunned silence here . . .

I live in a small southern Illinois community where everyone knows everyone and you have neighbors that you can count on. A few days ago, our county Sheriff was arrested for embezzlement of county funds,keeping money from a drug bust etc. He is local, my mom works with his son, the family is well known, kind of the salt of the earth kind of people. Everyone is just stunned . . . now this . . . I just don't know what gets into people's heads, how greedy do you need to be, how can these people think that they are not going to be caught eventually. So much for teaching our children to look up to our community leaders, I just don't know where a good example is anymore, or who we can trust. My 18 year old son voted this year and was so excited. He thinks Obama is the greatest, I just hope he is truly someone that my son can look up to and will be a good example for our young people. We just can't stand much more of the corruption and greed we are seeing, especially here in Illinois.

22. Hugs to the Illinois DUers - and an exhortation

My guess is that Blagojevich isn't the only one who's going down as a result of this scandal. A lot of Democrats in the Illinois party machine are going to wind up with bullseyes on their backs because of this.

When these guys get removed, I'd love to see our fellow DUers step into their shoes and repair the damage done to all Illinois Democrats.
