I don't understand why it should be sooo expensive? Bill Press just mentioned this on his show this AM.

1. Its a state-wide election. You would need election workers and ballots.
I believe that's the costs of the election. AND you'd probably need a primary as well.. to sort out the candidates. Elections cost a lot of money to run.. which is one of the reasons it costs so much to put your name on the ballot in most places.. either that or get your signatures.

4. I realize it's a state-wide election, but it still sounds like too much $$.
I don't know what kind of voting equipment they have in Ill. but wither you're talking about printing ballots or reprogramming machines, it can't possible cost anywhere close to $50 million. The poll workers here are volunteers, so what do they need all that money for?

3. Because Illinois has roughly 13 million people
Which means thousands of polling places, ballots, etc.

5. Can't the Congress pick someone to replace Obama?
Don't all elections eventually come down to a final decision by Congress?

7. No. Congress cannot pick someone. There is a little document called the Constitution.

This is a state decision.

9. Aparently Ill. law grants the Governor alone the right to appoint a
replacement. From every source I've heard, the only way to change that is for the Ill. legislature to make a new law changing it to holding a "special election".

One thing that has me quite curious is that there are a lot of high powered politicians who want Bogo GONE. Why can't they just put enough pressure on HIM to get out of town? We're not talking about some little town's mayor here with one enemy. We're talking about Durbin, Emanuel, many in the Ill. legislature, and even Obama. No matter how arrogant Bogo is, he can't possibly fight them all and win!

8. This is a BIG State...
Not just in population but in geography. Ride the length of this state and you when you get down to Little Egypt it's hard to believe you're still in the same state. Add to that the hundreds of precincts, workers and over time involved and you're starting to talk real money. Somehow a $50 million figure sounds high. Just for some math...there are 102 counties in this state...that would mean about $2 mil per country...including Cook County. I count, you decide...
