Poll question: Best way to save/raise governmental funds for necessary projects.
Edited on Wed Dec-10-08 11:17 AM by Deep13
If the states and the Feds have no money they cannot do anything. That means we might not be able to afford the change we voted for. How would you find the money for necessary public expenses?

I realize some of us may favor more than one item on the list, so pick what you think will help the most. You may infer an "other" by posting it. Thanks.

1. End both wars,
start to defund the pentagon. If the military budget were cut by 1/2 to 2/3, you would free up money for domestic procjects, end a great deal of pollution (since the US military is the world's single largest polluter), ease tension world wide, and start to get back the American reputation abroad. Cut out the Star Wars research, defund all the fine new weapons programmes, and back out of the contract to make robot warriors who can't commit war crimes (yes, that's a real contract. You can't make this stuff up.). End the contracts of the war machine.

Ending the war on drugs would help, too, as would incrfeasing taxes on the ones who are sucking up the good of the commons.

2. Right now? Deficit spending.
After the economy shows signs of improvement? Raise taxes on the rich, not the middle class.
As Iraq approaches the 16-month timeline? Pull troops out of Iraq.
As Afghanistan stops being a drug-infested wasteland? Pull troops out of Afghanistan.

3. The time it will take to act on those things...
...is one reason I picked legalizing marijuana. The USA has the largest prison population in the world and it is only because we think feeling good is sinful.
