Chicago Tribune is a Reichwing rag - working to turn Ill. red
Edited on Wed Dec-10-08 11:49 AM by CLG_News
I am not defending Gov. Blagojevich's actions, but let us see the bigger picture.
Other attempts to turn deep blue states red: The GOP push to install Enron troll Schwarzenegger in California and the killing off of as many poor people and minorities (Democrats) in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. We just saw the Democrat, Louisiana Congressman William Jefferson, defeated in a long-shot victory to the Republican, immigration attorney Anh 'Joseph' Cao.
Reichwing rag, aka the Chicago Tribune, has been working 24/7 to get rid of Blago and every Democrat in Illinois. It's owned other piece of garbage, The Hartford Courant, worked to ensure a Joe LieberBush victory in 2006. But yet, The Hartford Courant endorsed Bush/Cheney over Gore/Liebersh*t in 2000. Amazing, isn't it?

Going forward, you'll see a lot more codespeak for 'dirty Illinois politics' that need... what? Republicans to 'clean up the state.'
LOL and mega barf alert.
Blago's corruption? Compare that to Bush-Cheney's crime spree and their destruction of the US.
Nary a word spoken on that, except on the Left.

1. The Chicago Tribune endorsed Barack Obama as President.
I'm not in love with the Chicago Tribune, but I don't see how it's "working to turn Illinois red"

2. The Trib's editorial board is conservative, but the paper is far from "Reichwing"
Advocating for Blago's removal was neither left nor right wing. It was common sense.

4. Yes, on Blago's removal. But watch the slow emergence and push for GOPers who...

are willing to 'clean up' Illinois politics, if elected.
*Puke.*

5. So? Endorsing a GOP alternative to an undeniably corrupt Dem administration makes them "Reichwing?"
Edited on Wed Dec-10-08 12:00 PM by Raskolnik
That's just not reasonable.

6. No. Their not reporting huge illegal cash infusion to Lieberman,
days before the 2006 'election' in CT - and denigrating Ned Lamont every chance they got - etc., etc., etc. - *that's* what makes them Reichwing.
Yes, I am talking about The Hartford Courant, which made a hard turn to the right, as soon as the Tribune bought it.

7. Well, you're conflating several papers with distinct editorial boards.
And if you read the Chicago Tribune regularly, you'd know that it does have a conservative editorial policy and voice, but cannot be reasonably considered "Reichwing."

8. obviously, people here don't read the Tribune on a daily basis
the Trib is a conservative rag. Period. Dedicated to promoting Repugs and Dems (Daley, Madigan, etc.) who will work for them. That they want Ill to be Repug is like saying they want the sun to come up tomorrow. Compare the Trib's attacks on Blago - going on 6 years now, years before any indictments - with their "no fire here" approach to George Ryan.

Frankly, since Zell took over the right-wing tone has gone down a bit, but not disappeared - hence the Obama endorcement which was practical but hardly a paradigm shift. And yes, the silence they still have on the outrage over Bush/Cheney crimes is deafening. Hell, the silence they have on the true corruption power in Ill is deafening.

9. The Chicago Tribune has been a Republican paper since it was founded
To say it's working to turn Illinois red is like saying the sun rises in the east.

William Jefferson is so crooked he needs a cork screw to get undressed at night. Is it any surprise he was beaten? It has nothing to do with Blagojevic.

Arnold Schwarzenegger won a recall election over an unpopular governor. This has nothing more to do with Blagojevic than the fact that I personally don't think Davis was bad enough to be recalled and believe Schwarzenegger is no better than Davis.

Finally, Blago's crimes have nothing to do with the Bush Junta's crimes. Selling a senate seat not be a serious an offense as lying to the nation and the world to justify an otherwise unjustifiable war of aggression, but if Bush hadn't lied Blago would still be crooked and if Blago hadn't tried to extort money from Illinois' yet-unnamed new Senator Bush and Cheney would still be war criminals.

11. If you want some hair-raising reading - read the Trib in the 30s and 40s about the Roosevelts.
The Trib just made up crap about them.
