I think I know why Richardson ended up where he did and I'm pleased by it

Just my opinion, might as well start with that.

I was perplexed the the assignment of Bill Richardson to Commerce. With his competence and experience I had expected a more prestigious post for him. Last night it occurred to me that there may be a very good reason for him to be where he is. There is a census coming in 2010 and how well the count is made will have all the importance in the world for how our party will be shaped until sometime after 2020. It is reassuring to know that Bill Richardson will be in charge and will have adequate time to staff up the Department in key areas in anticipation of the count. Its about time for the invisible, particularly in our inner cities to be counted and more importantly to be represented. We are at a favorable time for the Democratic Party and more importantly we are at a favorable time for the all important redistricting that will follow.
