...Proposition 8 is not discrimination. It is a way to keep marriage holy and sacred the way God intended. Have you seen a “gay” restroom? A “gay” water fountain? A “gay” waiting room? Have you even heard of a “gay” person being lynched in the news recently? No, because those things that I named are true issues of discrimination.

Homosexuality is not a race, gender, religion issue. It's about choice and behavior. Everyone has encountered discrimination, because of the way they are shaped, the way they talk or even the color of their skin. Homosexuals were not born that way. They choose to like the same sex.

God has a plan for all of us, and we should not hinder or look away from that plan. He wants the best for us. Proposition 8 is God's will. He is the father, and every father has rules. Fathers make rules because they love their children. And children should obey the rules their fathers have given them.

As a pastor of 23 years, I believe the principles of the Bible, and I will continue to use it as my guide.

If this is a choice, would the pastor please tell us when he made his choice and what criteria he used in making the choice?
I heard this stated once before some many years ago and I wondered about when and I how I made my choice. As try as I may all I could recall was a time very long ago when I must have been in the second or third grade. We had been served apples as part of lunch and we were told to go outside to eat the apples. Outside on the playground boys and girls were separated by a space that neither boys nor girls were allowed in. Across that space was a group of girls, some of whom were in my class. There was one who had long blonde hair that just came down to her shoulders, the bluest eyes and most beautiful skin. She was chubby but that didn’t matter to me. She had to be the most beautify girl that I had ever seen.
One of my friends said I could not hit those girls with my apple core that I had just finished eating. I threw that apple core across that space as hard as I could and I hit her in her blonde hair. She got it tangled in her hair when she tried to get it out and some of the other girls helped her to get it out.
The boys slapped me on the back, elbowed me in the ribs, and said you got her. However I did not feel any sense of accomplishment or anything of that nature. I did know somewhere in my self that there was something about that girl that touched me deep inside, but it was not to hit her with an apple core.
There is no choice; it is something that is built into a person.

i didn't "choose" to be heterosexual. I showed distinct heterosexual tendencies in 1st grade when I kissed a boy in the cloakroom - and I never looked back. When I was in fourth grade, my friends and I would have sleep overs - we didn't want to sleep with one another, however. Instead, we thought about cute boys until we made ourselves "boy crazy." When we were "boy crazy" we would feel all shivery and we'd toss our pillows in the air and catch them and hug them. (I swear this hokum is true.)

I realize that I could have been overly influenced by my peers into thinking that my attraction to boys was "normal." But it never went away... well, with the exception of when I was nursing my sons and my hormones didn't have a word for sex.

Religion is a choice. Sexual orientation seems to be a little more hardwired than the name you scream when you're having an orgasm.

You (Dixon) have no right to insist that the general population conform to the dogma of your religion. Presumably, gay people who want to marry are not members of your church and have no duty to abide by its laws. Besides, even if god were real, and he isn't--the small-mindedness of his preoccupation of primate sexuality attests to that--you cannot possible know what that god wants. Even if you did know, this is our country, not god's. It is up to us and our Constitutional legal system to make this decision, not god's. There is no public policy reason for opposing gay marriage and many reasons for supporting it. Capt. Obvious, therefore, must conclude that the right answer is obvious.
