The calendar is a fundraiser for Ashland Christian Emergency Services, which assists some of the area's neediest citizens.Sales have raised $11,000 in less than a week. But it has also raised the ire of those who question the propriety of people posing nude in the name of Christian charity. Some donors to the nonprofit -- including some Ashland-area churches -- have ceased supporting the nonprofit organization out of anger.
"People feel strongly about this calendar one way or another, and I respect anyone's opinion," said Elizabeth McDade, president of Circle Communications and the wife of the calendar's "Mr. May," hardware store owner Robert Traweek. "If they feel that way about it, who am I to tell them they're wrong?"
Al Dickerson, the 83-year-old executive director of ACES, was among the men who posed for the calendar. He agrees with McDade's assessment. "I know that the name is really what set people off.
