I just finished a 48 hr shift, my son is in bed and I have had a couple of cocktails. Every so often I look in the mirror and find myself looking older, closer to the state of middle age... lets not mark numbers here but visual identification from personal levels. I stop, look at myself and start considering the multitude of possibilities that may arise around me. Is the economy going to end my work and a way of life for me? Is Obama going to move our country into a new era of foresight and prosperity? What type of country will my son grow up in? Should I invest in infrastructure? Would it be a good investment to buy a Nigerian textile? Do I have anything to offer the future of this world? Why am I reading about Sintashta cultures and does it matter where or if there was a proto-european dialect? Here I lay a diverse field of diluted thoughts contemplating life in a surreal world of "cyberspace" and await the grand epiphany of your life, moments, thoughts and opinions...lets talk.

I'm OK with talking...

I'm self employed & doing OK (so far). I don't have kids & am not married. My life should be fairly uncomplicated; but my God am I worried for our nation and the world.

I worry deeply about people like yourself & families like yours -- today's many contradictions all seem to come down to the bottom line of survival; and it's a friigin' shame.

I, like you, grew up in an age where the power of thought and imagination was known to be crucial to our common future. We've been betrayed.

The current regime has sabotaged the bridge to this 21st century, and replaced it with a bridge to the 1980's -- when the jackals of Wall Street were allowed to run wild in DC ...and vacuumed out all the resources of the savings & loan banks that middle class America trusted in.

Yeah -- we can talk.

Where does one go from here? We in this country are peering over a precipice into a void of the unknown made by global intrusions into the fabric that was monetary commerce. Now we wait all the while making actions to ensure the viability of our lives, or as you put it, survival. I do not plan to give in but continue to help my community move into sustainability within itself and retain enough resources to move outside itself as well. I am not overly involved as I type these words, I operate at the perimeter and help as I can. In the near future I do plan to become more involved as the pressure to do so is mounting from the people involved. Anyway Indi Guy, thanks for talking.

8. Miles of hedges are so manicured they look like plastic!

My job is to look after the health of independent clients. There wealth keeps me employed. Mostly I work with Alzheimer's patients or people who have dementia. My 48 hour shift allows me to nod off but I must always be alert. The salary is blessed the job is hard.

Hedgetrimmer came when I was considering an anti-Bush name for DU. Cheers Skittles.

11. The new century we find ourselves in...

Demands a new way of doing things, a new way of thinking about things, a new path for us all to walk.

The old ways of determining what is of value and what is not have led to the bankruptcy that is now.

If we fail to change and in a VERY LARGE way the future holds little that could be seen as good.

A question that seems unable to leave my mind is this:

Why do we all persist in accepting and participating in a system that we had nothing to do with the creation thereof ?
