Its SNOWING IN SOUTH MISSISSIPPI

Some schools closed over in South Louisiana and the state police have called in reinforcements to deal with the weather related accidents. No doubt this would be a routine day up north. Snowing pretty heavily here at the house but no accumulation so far. I'm 12 years old again.

One of these days I'll learn how to post those pretty pictures. Funny you should mention snow shovel. I took a load of stuff to Goodwill about two weeks ago including a snow shovel which has been up in the attic unused for about eight years. Its still snowing and the New Orleans TV Stations have gone to general quarters. Its like Hurricane coverage (almost.)

people are freaking out. As someone who used to live in Maine, I find it kind of funny. I've lived here 20 years and this (about one inch) is by far the most we've had in that time.

7. Snow in Beaumont Texas

I have friends that live not far off the coast in Texas. They called this am and reported between 4-6"! Kids are having a blast and snowballs will fly until it melts which won't take long. Schools were delayed until 10am and it will most likely be all melted by then. That area gets snow like once every decade!

12. I moved to New Orleans from

Northern Virginia in 1989 - imagine my surprise to get snow right before Christmas. It was only about 2-3 inches but it shut the city down quick. For all the rain the area gets, you would think that there would have been some ability to drive in it ... not.

13. I remember it well

Friday the 22nd of December 1989. I was stuck on the sixth floor of the parking garage at the naval base on Dauphine Street. It was a three hour trip from NOLA to Slidell. The event was just another reason for Boo-dro to party. As you probably know if Boo-dro wakes up in the morning thats a reason to party.

And thanks for that beautiful picture. Katrina wiped out the streetcars but most of the operation is back up and running.

I was bartending at the Copeland's on Vets when it started snowing - all the locals were outside playing in it. I had come from an area of snow and at the time, didn't understand the fascination with it. But, thirteen years later of living there, I would have been fascinated too!

43. The DC area is horrible.

There are people from everywhere and with different driving experiences.

The worst part is that you get ice. Very hard to drive on ice,

but people do love to try.

50. Tell me about it -

We would have times where it would ice, then another layer of snow would fall. I kept a bag of kitty litter in my trunk in the event of getting stuck. We also lived at the bottom of about three hills - I had one experience where I just couldn't get out of the neighborhood to go to work. And shoveling! Arrggh! When I moved to New Orleans I was sooo happy to be done with all that. Never thought I'd have to deal with a flood.

14. The night of Christmas Day 2000

I was stuck in motel room in Seattle waiting to meet up with friends the following morning. Only thing of of any interest on TV was the Weather Channel showing the ice and snow in Arkansaw and the chaos it was causing to those not used to such stuff - trucks up hillsides etc.

17. One of the reasons I prefer to live

in a place that regularly gets snow all winter, is that at least the people and the road-clearing crews are geared up for it.

And of course I realize that this current southern snow storm will probably pass pretty quickly and it may well be several years before the next one, unlike, say, Minneapolis or Boston, and so the rarity is the appealing part to those of you who live in the south. I actually like snow and cold, which isn't the way most people think.

Back in May I was in Utica, NY (serious snow country if you've never been there in January) and told several people I was thinking about moving there, which I was. They all said that I should, it was a great place to live, and then mentioned that it got cold and snowy in the winter, but didn't consider that much of a problem. I loved their attitude.

19. Even in Minnesota,

the first couple of snowstorms each year have people all over the state in the ditch, after sliding off the road. Each year, everyone has to learn, once again, that streets are slippery when covered in snow. It's amazing.

I guess it would kind of put a crimp in their marketing if the island of "Hot and Spicy Tabasco Brand Pepper Sauce" was covered in snow! This week is warmer, but last week one day it went all the way up to 26.

Wierd fall.

FWIW, our dog's winter coat has come in very thick this year - does he know what's coming?

( Oh, yeah - forecast for Friday morning is 1" of snow. If you don't like the weather here in PA, just wait a day or so, it'll be completely different.)

My wive's family is from Kansas and I recall spending many a day literally snowed in up there. I am really loving this, fortunately I don't have to get out and drive in it.

30. Kansas had one of the most beautiful years imaginable this year and, after

several oddly warm winters, we are now having the kind of Winter I remember from when I was 12 too. Snowy, Bright, and cold today and it's been this way for at least a week.

I have to get out to work; fortunately that's only 5 minutes from here.

At the time the weathermen were saying it was the first time it had snowed there in 34 years. jus so's u noe :-)

I graduated from Preble Field RTC San Diego 36 years ago last Monday. I recall mostly nice weather in Oct-Dec 72 but we also had the occasional rain squalls. Remember watching Poor Sailors Airways departing while we marched on the grinder?

Sept 7 through november 23. I spent a few months afterwards as a company commanders aid before going on to s.e.r.e. training and staying there for a tour helping to teach others survival skills before shipping off to Cam Rahn Bay, VN. Those were some wild ass times in my life thats for sure. I'm a dry land sailor, never got near a ship. I had two brothers come in to the navy right after me, one older and one younger. My older brother was in boot when I was an adjutant and I would sneak over to his barracks sometimesa at night and visit. If I would have been caught doing that no telling what would have happened, whatever it would have been would not have been pretty I know that. Thanks for your services Boss I know from reading here you done us proud. I might add, you still are.

One of my biggest regrets is that I didn't ship over and make a career of the Navy because as I look back on it I remember I loved it and probably would have stayed if not for my last duty station being in 'Nam.

We got us a hell of a good and honest man coming up to be our next President, huh. I didn't know we as a country had in it us.

I never regretted a minute of my time in the Navy. Oh yeah, Junior Officer training was a pain in the ass and JG's who thought they knew more then the skipper and pissant seaman who couldn't balance a checkbook but I'm glad I did it.
