All elected officials should be required to take psychiatric exams before taking office!

All of them. Pass a psych exam, or you don't take public office!

Blagojevich pretty much demonstrates why, as Randi Rhodes is discussing today - Blago's a narcissist. He thinks he's perfect. He thinks's he's special, and that he's entitled. He thinks that the entire state he governs would fall apart except for him, and that the law should not apply to him. It's classic compensation for a person who internally has zero self-esteem and thinks he's a bad person. Maybe that's because he IS a bad person.

Bush is the same way - total narcissist, with a heaping helping of sociopath. He thinks he's superhuman, that he's entitled, and that he doesn't have to answer to anyone. His mind has been twisted over the years due to his daddy issues and his years of drinking that he's built this narcissistic shell so he can pretend to be better than the rest of us. And what's the result of his rule? At least 1.2 million dead in Iraq, thousands of dead U.S. troops, a monumentally clusterfucked economy, millions driven into poverty.

History is full of narcissistic and sociopathic assholes weaseling themselves into power and destroying lives by the millions just to satiate their twisted cravings.

And what's really disgusting is not just the narcissists themselves, but the people they surround themselves with. Classic right-wing-authoritarian followers (using the term "right-wing authoritarian" in the way that Bob Altemeyer uses it. Read Conservatives Without Conscience or The Authoritarians to learn...) In other words, sycophants and fellow narcissists, who make themselves feel important because they're close to a person in power. They build this shared fantasy of themselves being the only ones worthy of power, and the ones deserving of all the rewards, and they're willing to do absolutely anything to stay on top. Actual issues of governance take a back seat, so the rest of us get screwed.

We've been dealing with them in the White House for eight years. They've clearly demonstrated themselves to be a cancer upon our country, and poison to our political discourse.

So I suggest that we revise the Constitution to require all people elected to public office to take a psychiatric exam. A sophisticated one, designed to resist attempts by narcissists and sociopaths to slip through. And the rule should be simple - if the exam shows you have a narcissistic or antisocial-spectrum personality disorder, you're disqualified. No ifs, ands or buts, you don't take the office. I don't care how many votes you got.

I don't care if it violates their rights. Because I'm sick of dealing with these diseased twisted fucks. They don't have empathy. They don't feel remorse. They don't have a sense of shame. They refuse to identify with us, they dehumanize us, and their actions reflect that. They are human garbage. Fuck them. If they dehumanize us, I'll dehumanize them.

1. You've just eliminated Lincoln, TRoosevelt, Churchill, Franklin & Eleanor R...

FDR was a narcisist, so was LBJ and JFK.

Lincoln, TR, ER and WSC ALL had depression problems.

Churchill and TR were both batshit crazy.

3. I didn't say anything about depression...
I just want to get rid of the narcissists and sociopaths.

Depression's actually treatable. But you can't fix narcissists or sociopaths.

2. Then whoever controlled the exam process

could disqualify any political opponent. Do you really want Obama called unqualified by a psychiatrist appointed by Sarah Palin?

edit to correct typo caused by one-handed typing while eating a sandwich.

5. Here's the problem...

That sounds a lot like the rhetoric that we've been hearing the past 8 years with respect to terrorists and liberals. We should care whose rights we violate because if we don't, there's no one else who will.

6. Narcissism is practically a requirement for office.
They are all giant egomaniacs at least.

7. This test should be given at the time of filing and the showing of
their birth certificate...LOL. Test should be given before any campaigning commences. Think John McCain...

8. And just WHO would YOU trust to "administer" such a "test"?
I'll keep our current system just as it is thank you very much.

I'd rather trust in the collective wisdom of We the People than a collection of "experts" who keep redefining just what is and is not mental illness as we go forward.

For that matter, what does that do to prevent people from going rogue after we elect them?

Do you really think that Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, and Thomas Jefferson were not "narcissists"?

How about Bill Clinton, Lyndon Johnson, and Richard Nixon for that matter. Narcissist, narcissist and you guessed it narcissist.

They each had a need to be loved but this drove them both to greatness AND to failure.

Politicians are in politics generally for one of three reasons:

"Narcissism" / A need to be loved.
Access to power.
Access to money.

It is exceedingly rare to find one that is entirely there for reasons of service.

Ultimately We the People get the government we deserve, the government we wanted, and the government we voted for. Our government is too important to be entrusts to such "experts".

9. They say genius is just a hairbreadth away from insanity.
Not sure tests would be a good idea...but previous actions would be..and a truthful press/media would help a lot.

If the truth about prez shit-for-brains had been allowed to surface, I am sure that he would never have made it past
Gov of Texas...which was bad enough.

11. If it were retroactive, it would clean out 90% of government...Say, you might be on to something!
Narcissism, egomania, grandiosity, with a good portion of sociopathy, seem to be necessary ingredients for a career in politics..or crime. But, I repeat myself.

Pilots, maybe? Astronauts? You'd think the ship of state would get as much care. :)

14. I'd love to see the day when really dangerous people to public offices
cannot get near power. Around the world too because after all, all the genocides are caused by such a cluster of narcissists.
