... as a predictive measure of how bad our economy is.


... And more on declining wages, the vast income inequality that seperates low-income earners from the ultra rich, the fact that our jobs continue to get shipped overseas, the fact that our manufacturing base is diminishing by the second and replaced by McJobs.

Really, it would be nice to see some perspective from the corporate media for once. The economy just doesn't live or die on the Dow Jones Industrial Average report for the day.

1. They focus on the stock market because that directly affects them

while it doesn't seem to matter if the people who drive them to work, prepare their meals, make their clothing, and blow dry their hair keep falling farther behind every year.

It's an extremely self serving and badly skewed economic focus.

2. Good observation, and Paul Krugman said as much

in an interview a couple weeks back: "all indicators point towards a recession bordering on depression, and I don't use the DJIA for guidance - what it does these days is totally off the charts" paraphrased.
