Does the "Middle Class" provide a buffer preventing "The Poor" from picking up guns...
and grabbing what the "Wealthy" legally steal from the rest of us?

And how does this bode for the "Wealthy" when more and more of the "Middle Class" is moving into the ranks of "the Poor" or "Working Poor"?

Are we looking at insurrection in the US down the road?

1. I think what kept people from picking up guns and shooting the wealthy
Edited on Fri Dec-12-08 08:37 PM by BrklynLiberal
was the hope that one day they could be wealthy, or at least be able to live a nice middle class life. If that hope disappears, there will be nothing that can save the wealthy from revolution and death.

3. Yes.. that makes sense.
It's too bad people inherently *want* to be wealthy while others suffer. I am guilty of this, i'll admit it. Sigh

And they are just ex-army not some freaking super-troopers.

So they will not be shooting their Mother.

13. I don't think so.
Edited on Fri Dec-12-08 09:07 PM by mondo joe
I grew up in a poor neighborhood in a poor city (Buffalo).

I never knew of a single person or family growing up who wanted armed revolution. What everyone knew as far as I could tell was to have a bigger piece of the pie, to have some security and stability.

I think that's what about everyone was hoping for.

2. Good question
I can't give you an answer, but I sure as hell hope we (as a species) realize that the disgusting discrepancy between the wealthy and everyone else is utterly wrong.
You have people spending millions on their own personal fucking yachts with butlers to wipe their asses while millions starve to fucking death. What. the. fuck.

4. Yes, which is why some experts are worried how this effects China
They didnt have enough time to build up a decent sized middle class, so their government may be on shaky ground if the economic crisis deepens.

5. Interesting also.....
that the party that is trying to destroy the middle class is also the party that pushes gun ownership. Why do people need guns? To shoot other people of course................it really is all quite insane...........Wake up sheeple!

6. Many middle class will be forced to sell their guns to pay bills. nt
not only that but who exactly would they target as wealthy? What number makes people rich?

14. What number makes people poor? I think it's the discrepancy
that matters. Offhand I would say it will take two factors: 1) A really hungry desperate population and 2) the knowledge they have been screwed. Then the search for someone to blame will begin, and perhaps end behind the walls of gated communities.

22. The police would stop anyone who attacked a gated community..
they know where there bread is buttered. Such a foolish act would result in nothing good happening.

7. What stops the military from mowing down the armed working class on behalf of the rich?
Edited on Fri Dec-12-08 08:52 PM by readmoreoften
Or "quashing anti-americanism" or "keeping order" or whatever else the rich would call it.

That will be the question. I think the answer will be new technology and the deep craving for order and comfort instilled in the US working class (by the rich).

It's the middle class that picks up the guns. It's the middle class that can afford to buy them. Be very afraid of the pissed off bourgeoisie.

10. People overwhelmingly want stability and security for themselves and their families.
There are always some would-be Robespierres, but armed rebellion isn't what most people, the poor included, want.

15. Not that I think that this would come close to happening...
But when do people ever want war? Sometimes, as history shows us, if you commit enough perceived atrocities, or wave your wealth against the wealth-hungry, you're going to get that massive explosion of anger. The result is horrendous and devastating.

We still have a functioning legal system. We're not on the edge of FUBAR yet.

12. Nope. The vanishing middle class HAS guns already.
Rifles and shotguns, hardly any need in my part of the South for handguns a-tall. You can't stomp us out and you can't make us run.

16. I can answer this...pick me, pick me!
I am from a poor area. Hell, paycheck to paycheck is as good as it has ever gotten.

When the poor pick up guns, they head to the woods to hunt game for dinner. Stealing is really not what we are about. We got our asses smacked when young, if we took anything that belonged to someone else.

This "economic meltdown" won't hurt us so much, as we are very adept at surviving on little. Most have wood stoves, own their own shacks, and have a cow and a chicken or two. You'll not see a McMansion or Hummer about.

The poor, at this moment, are pretty much just sitting back & watching the show.

20. I was thinking the same thing.
Why steal when you know how to make it with what you have and the resources that are available. The notion that I am poor so I need to kill and steal from someone else has never entered my head.

27. It's not the poor that the richies need to look out for...
but one another. Hell, they'll be tearing one another apart before it's all said and done.

That's why I refer to it as 'the show'. Ever watch 2 fat cat CEO's fight over the last diamond in the pile?

Me neither.:silly:

The poor know what police are really for. The middle class think they're there to protect them from the poor. Morans. :eyes:
