Prediction: There will be a sizable migration of displaced workers to the south

There have been several migrations of labor in this country's short history. I suspect we are on the brink of the next one. One has to wonder how the remaining Republican states will deal with it when it comes. If your car is your home in February its a lot better for it to be parked in Atlanta* than in Detroit* and people will go to Atlanta when there is no job and no hope of a job in Detroit.

I do not literly mean Atlanta and Detroit, I simply use them as examples of Southern and northern cities that will certainly be effected by an increase in demand for costly social services associated with an influx of economic refugees.

Atlanta has instituted homeless laws that are disgusting, as well as heartbreaking. The charitable organizations are backwards and over-worked right now.

The jobs are NOT here. All bluster from the Senators is just that - bluster. One guy my old man met on a temp assignment had been out of work since LAST October. He's traveling 60 miles round trip for a 10 buck an hour job.

Welcome to the South - the wealthy endure by driving the poor into the ground, literally.

. . . the willingness of some governments there to bend to whatever it takes to keep these foreign car companies in their state. If foreign domination of the U.S. car industry is the future for America then the South will have jobs available, but not ones which sustain the workers. Americans need to decide if they want this industry to go the way of so many other technologies that were abandoned by our government here but invested in overseas by both the governments there and the foreign auto industry we support with our dollars here.

We have been building cars here for forty years, and our plants are still open. I worked for Peterbuilt, certainly not a foreign product. We have GM plants here, as well. The cost of living is cheaper here, therefore the costs of labor are cheaper. We do have foreign auto makers here, too, for that exact reason, I would suppose. That, and the fact that we are a "Right to work" state.
I spent 12 yrs as a steelworker here, and I was a member of two different locals. One was good, the other was a corrupt piece of shit that got shut down permantly.

Why would any industry want to locate in an area where labor and living costs are too high for them to make a profit? They wouldn't. That is why you see them locating in the south. Simple economics. Until wage and living costs get lower in the rust belt, they will continue to head south.

I live about 60 miles north of Dallas up on the Oklahoma border. The economy is pretty good here, due mainly to a casino being built and making 4000 good paying jobs. I have apts and lease houses and they are all full. First time I have ever had 100% occupancy!

So, there are pockets of prosperity, you just have to seek them out.
