They're laughing at us

After a week of watching southern Republican senators blaming union labor for all the ills of this economy and demanding that these workers make wage concessions, one can only come to one conclusion. They are laughing at us. Look at my avatar and you will see what I mean by "us". Watching the weekend business shows, Cavuto on Fox :grr: and the laughing continues, union bashing and supply side cheerleading. In my opinion, these right wing media hacks and southern Republican senators are sorely under estimating the anger that is about to erupt in this area of the country.

Larry the Slimeball, who had cheer-leaded the $700billion bailout for the financial industry, was announcing that he was now suddenly "tired" and "fatigued" about the bailouts now that Detroit needs help. Said Kudlow: "We really need to stand up to the union workers and the UAW."

10. I really hate to burst your bubble but this country has been going anti union for a very

long time now. Since Reagan, the anti union forces have been telling the nit wits all the evils of workers unions. I seen it in union cities, here in Saginaw Michigan, there were union Kroger stores before Reagan took office. After Reagan was elected Kroger made a deal with Al Kessel to buy out the area's Kroger stores thus tying the unions hands because Kessel stores weren't unionized and because Krogers sold out nothing could be done for union workers, who either stayed at their jobs with reduced wages and no benefits or they lost their jobs.

It was a vast scam as the "new" Kessel stores sold Kroger brand foods, the non union Kroger stores in Ohio remained open. All efforts to unionize Kessels failed, the former union workers tried but Kessl said if they unionized he was closing the stores, the unions couldn't muster up enough support with the non union workers to pass a union also. This went on until 2000.

Then after the 2000 elections all of a sudden Kessel sold all of the Kessel stores back to Krogers and today they are all back under the Kroger name without unions. Now with all the union busting Krogers did in the open, Where do you think our UAW workers did their grocery shopping? You got it, Kessels, the UAW workers declared what Kroger and Kessel did was none of their business and they had to shop where food prices were lowest, they were the same as prices as the Ohio Kroger stores, but Kessel ran sales on food items to draw in the shoppers.

Today here in Saginaw the vast majorty of folks think union workers are over paid, lazy, free loaders getting top dollar without having to work for it. The myth that UAW workers get $73 an hour is widely believed and the myth is repeated by people "who" used to work at GM and have all the dirt on union workers who left GM because they felt they were taking advantage of the poor GM CEO's being forced to give workers benefits and huge pay checks.

This is basically a battle where the union myth's or lies are believed, and what it really boils down to is jealousy of union workers pay compared to non union workers pay. We here in DU seem to over look or ignore the jealousy factor at play, the pukes know it and feed it. I think that stems from our ability to see past our bank accounts or lack of and realize that the unions do far more good for all americans and not just those in the unions.

I live in a union town in Texas, thanks to the refineries and chemical companies here. The state overall has a very bad opinion of unions, but my little town is a very strong pro-union town.

Maybe if we ever come out of this hell
we can all learn a thing or two. Bring back Unions for everyone. How can you be against a Union? They make sure you are payed a living wage, they are great on benefits, vaca pay, overtime ect... In this new financial environment we have a chance to stick together and change things. We really need to wake up. Look at the people at the Republican Window and Door Company, they got what they wanted. Chicago might turn out some of the worst but I think over the years they have also turned out some of the best.
