All of a sudden: FOUR important movies that I must see.
First, "Milk". Penn is supposed to get an Oscar nom for this. And how timely is it!

Second, "Frost/Nixon." Sheen and Langella also may be Oscar noms.
Supposedly a really fantastic drama.

Third, "Doubt." Gotta watch Streep and Hoffman do their thing. They also may get Oscar noms. Oh, and supporting actresses, Amy Adams and Viola Davis (especially) also.

Fourth, "Revolutionary Road." Leonardo De Caprio and Kate Winslet again a duo. Kathy Bates supporting role. Don't know about Oscar noms but some pretty good reviews and I like this kind of movie.

If you are like me, loving to watch really good actors do the work they are best at, and love really good cinematography, direction and intelligent script, these look like the winning ones.

22. I plan to see Valkyrie as well
I visited Plotensee Prison (where most of the conspirators and their families) were put to death.

They were hanged by piano wire :scared:

28. I so utterly detest Tom Cruise as an actor, I couldn't spend even a penny to see him.
The previews of him as some Nazi officer are LUDICROUS. Beyond laughable.

30. LOL! Ain't that the truth!
I wonder if he has any idea how ridiculous he is?

Or are there enough cult members with pre-paid tickets?

I was actually looking forward to seeing Christina Ricci's Sophie Scholl pic.

12. I saw the trailer and I must say it was a bit of a downer, since I know how it really turned out
for the men who turned against Hitler. Their horrific executions were a bit much for me to read about, much less experience on the big screen...

18. Well, I think we know how this turned out in WWII. It's not like we had no clue.
I mean, I'm sorry, but reality intrudes. This is a historical film. If you want fantasy, there's Disney. This should be the real deal. If it is not, I will be very disappointed...

23. Oh yes, sorry, I didn't see the "tongue" smilie. OK. Got it.
Really, I think the movie has someinteresting points, but since we do know the outcome, do you think it will be that intriguing? Perhaps if there are some interesting sidelights to the character of the people involved. Don't know. I hope to read the reviews of this movie. I certainly wouldn't see it just because of the lead actor...

...when you already know how it ends?

Only TC knows!

34. I want to see it because Eddie Izzard is in it
I don't know if I can deal with watching a movie with Nazi people who speak perfect Murikin. I think that would get on my nerves.

4. I just received a copy of "Milk" in the mail the other day.
I am in the Editor's Guild and, although I am not a voting member of the Academy, I get to see a whole bunch of films for free and sometimes get lucky enough to be sent an "Academy Screener."

It was a nice surprise!

6. You know, there's something I've always wanted to ask an editor ...
... you know how they say people who are exposed to violent movies become violent.

Since editors see the movies more than anyone else, do you think people in your profession are more violent than the general population?

7. Doubt's trailers is giving me horrific flashbacks
I suffered thru several years of Catholic school with nuns who looked exactly like Streep. And sounded like her, too.

Freaking Nazi penguins.... :grr:

10. Some good movies out there this month.
Doubt is at the top of the list for me because I love really good dialogue in movies (I think it's based on a play). I watched the trailer and I just know the acting is going to be top notch in it.

Revolutionary Road is my kind of movie. People stuck in miserable lives.

31. I saw MILK a couple of weeks ago.
In Houston.

Sean Penn was excellent, as was everyone else in the cast.

The only other person I recognized was Victor Garber, who was the naval architect in "Titanic", Mr. Andrews. I think he's cool.

He played Mayor Moscone. Looks just like him.

Everyone in the cast looks just like the real people they play.

The fourth I haven't heard about, but I'll look it up... :-)

I was also looking forward to seeing "W," but that one passed me by. :-(

I haven't gone out to see a movie for a few years. "Fahrenheit 9/11" may have been the last...

I lived in SF when Moscone and Milk were assassinated. I was admittedly a shallow young person at the time, but I'll never forget that day...
