FOR YOUR EYES ONLY
a re-write

If I could give them eyes to see - past profits from a war
Perhaps our troops could then be free - to live, just like before
Perhaps they'd see it clear as day - by seeing their own child
blowing other people's kids away - in a conflict, now gone wild

If I could give them ears to hear - the muffled cries at night
Perhaps they'd listen in silent fear - as missiles take to flight
Perhaps they'd hear some mothers cry - weeping for their sons
that die because of a dirty lie - which serves only wealthy ones

If I could give them hearts to feel - the sorrow and the pain
Perhaps they'd touch some bloody steel - as missions go insane
Perhaps they'd feel their bones break - when hidden bombs explode
near troops that fight for freedom's sake - along a dusty road

If I could give them minds that think - about the greater cost
Perhaps we only win at war - when we measure what we've lost
Perhaps they'd learn to really win - we simply end a game
that measures score in countless death - on walls to black to name

1. The travelling wall has been to my area several times.

I have wanted to go see it but just couldn't do it. I think it would be just too overwhelming.

RIP all.

USN 65 - 69.

4. I lived near DC and saw it several times. Each time it was an unbelievably spiritual experience.
It's impossible to describe the feelings.

7. I saw it with my dad once.
He looked in the roster of fallen soldiers, and recognized names of guys he went to high school with.

8. I found the name on my POW bracelet.
How stupid was I? I lived for years believing the date on the bracelet was the day he went missing. I was crushed to find out it was the day he was declared dead. He was from Texas. Raised my opinion of the state, that little fact.

9. I lived near DC and went to "The Wall" several times.
It is overwhelming. The thing that would always clinch it for me were the items people left behind.
Notes, stuffed animals and other things you knew had to mean a lot. "The Wall" itself could make me
cry, but those pieces of somebody's heart would make it harder.
I remember one time when somebody left a small can of fruit cocktail with a plastic spoon on top in
front of every panel.
(The Park Service saves everything left and are going to make some kind of museum for it.
Here is a link to "The Walls" site: http://thewall-usa.com/ )

10. Yea. I've watched people do pencil rubbings of a name and wondered if
it might have been a parent, a spouse, a sibling.
