My dad died 3 years ago on Thursday. He was a union steelworker who always voted dem. Although he had a bit of racism in him , being old-school - no excuse - but he always tormented me by referring to n*****s, knowing it would get my goat up, since I had lived in Africa. However, he knew and worked with many AA's and in reality had no problems with them. I know for certain that he would have voted for Obama.
My brother-in-law Victor died in May. He was only 50 yo., and was a HUGE Obama supporter. He travelled twice to the Sudan on missionary trips and was scheduled to start classes this fall to become a layman minister.
I wouldn't be surprised if he and my dad weren't up there (wherever that is) lending their hands to Obama's historic victory.
I miss them both terribly, and wish they were here to witness this moment in history.
Here's to Joe and Victor (affectionately known as "Hector"). May their Democratic legacy live on in their children and grandchildren.
