That Iraqi "Throwing Shoe" was a Stunt...disgusting to whip up the Repug Base...
Edited on Sun Dec-14-08 07:06 PM by KoKo01
I just saw CNN replay it over and over and it's obvious Bush was alerted it was coming because his laughing face and "dodge" at just the right time reveals it all.

Some DU'ers may remember that "Bull Horn Moment" at 9/11 site where he stood next to the perfect picture of NY Fire Department (perfect Irish Face that fireman had) and he said "I HEAR YA."

Same stunt...and Drudge the RW/Politico/Washington Times/Faux News/Drudge and the rest will have orgasm over poor President who "freed those poor Iraqi's" got NO RESPECT!

STUNT/CRAP/STAGED disgusting. Look at the laugh on his face...and the media is saying "Fairwell you Dog" is what the Iraqi said. CNN replayed it over and over and spent alot of time showing the wrestling of the Iraqi down.

Chimpy seemed to know that it was a "Size 10 Shoe" and little Dana Perino got a microphone shoved in her face.

:puke: on these DAMNED PROPAGANDISTS....When can they be exposed and prosecuted for these STUNTS!

ON EDIT: You think anyone with any "grudge or grievance" against Bush would ever get into a PRESSER with him? You think his security in Iraq would allow this. FGS! He still has to fly into Iraq in SECRET...what does that tell you about this guy "with grievance" getting in to "throw a shoe."

12. Agreed. It's the perfect metaphor for the end of the Bush era, though.
Iraq and wrecking the economy will be what he is remembered for, as Worst President Ever. Plenty more reasons, but those two will likely predominate. He thinks he "won" in Iraq. To have his last visit there remembered for ducking shoes is just great. A perfect metaphor. The OP is 180 degrees wrong. This wasn't staged. This was a moment in history.

21. It was a press conference. The thrower is a journalist.
He was in the room with a bunch of other journalists, actually farther away from Bush than many of the others; from the tape it looked like he was at least 20 feet away. I'm assuming everyone in the room was screened and searched for weapons, but were allowed to keep their shoes. Shoes are not weapons, but in Islamic cultures they are used to express disgust and disdain. This particular journalist had been kidnapped and beaten, as had some of his friends and family. What happened was not surprising under the circumstances, but it was certainly not staged. I'm not the "innocent" one here.

Does anyone know?

As far as the OP, I don't think the shoe OR the fireman was planned. I saw the fireman in an interview, btw, and he says no one was more surprised than he when the dunce asked him to stand there with him.

91. Pfft.
"On 9/11, he was 69, retired seven years. His family told him he was too old to report for duty. But he knew the father of a missing fireman, and three days after the attacks, he grabbed his old helmet and gear, drove into the city and talked his way into Ground Zero.

Then he heard the president was coming. For a look, he stood up on a fire engine that had been pulled from the wreckage. A man (Bush political adviser Karl Rove, Beckwith later learned) came over and asked him to jump up and down to see whether the firetruck was stable. Satisfied, he dusted off a spot next to Beckwith and told him a VIP was going to stand there; when he got up, Beckwith should get down. The VIP was Bush.

The fireman helped the president up and began to step down as instructed. But Bush said, "Where you goin'? ... Stay here."

Beckwith continues to support Bush and the president's pursuit of the war on terrorism: "I like the guy — he's a real man. ... I think he's doing a good job."

18. Firemen of that guy's age were Irish and his having lung problems later doesn't
mean he wasn't "set up." I have Irish Firemen in NYC as part of my family heritage. Many of them are patriotic to an extreme and vote Repug...and others would be very prone to being proud to volunteer for a photo op with their President after a major disaster when they'd lost so many of their own.

Now, many of us would "gag" on that statement...but there are many who are proud of what they have done with Bush/Cheney in the cause for "Democracy and Freedom" all over the world.

I would say that those who are "proud" are members of the AEI, APIAC, HERITAGE, Hoover, CATO, Hudson Institutes and numerous other "bottom feeding," Right Wing or CIA Inspired Foundations" who applaud all that Bush/Cheney and going back to Bush I and Reagan and before that Ford and Nixon have done to "Keep America Save" from the "Pirates."

Edited on Sun Dec-14-08 07:20 PM by higher class
"I just saw CNN replay it over and over and it's obvious Bush was alerted it was coming because his laughing face and "dodge" at just the right time reveals it all."

I imagine what his prep schools, his Yale years, and perhaps even his Harvard years - and consider him sitting around in a campaign office or in his governor's office - all of it leads me to think that his entire life has been HORSING AROUND with school mates and friends. It was probably very important to save face in all those situations by pretending it's all in fun, but better to be on the offensive than the defensive. He has lived his life as a good joke.

I don't consider your first sentence as being alerted. He just practiced what he has done all his life - the the point that his jokes were terribly offensive. Honoring someone with a medal, then telling the person not to sell it on ebay. Low down uncouth stuff. He's always ready to play games - making upnicknames, smirking at someone who is pleading for their life.

He's an unmasterful jokester on strings.

So I don't agree with that one premise. He always had to be alert for that snap of the towel on his butt.

81. What is so surprising about the press reporting that some
guy tried to bean the president with his shoes twice? That isn't something you see everyday and it's on tape! When his Dad puked on the Japanese Prime Minister, they were all over that too. What was the big conspiracy behind that, in your opinion?

Edited on Sun Dec-14-08 08:43 PM by higher class
he is good at his give and take on a joking level, so he can have a quick comeback for a serious act. I just don't think it's necessarily true that it was staged. I don't forgive him anything. I can't tolerate his arrested development. I believe Cheney is the President and Bush is the front person, the face, and the fund raiser. Kidding around has been his forte, therefore coming back with a crack about the size of the shoe is just his modus operandi and doesn't prove that this was staged.

I despise that man and what he has done to millions of lives because of his decision to go along with the farce that he is a real President and all the evil he and Cheney have brought us on behalf of their barons.

He only knows four things well - loyalty-reward ... and ... betrayal-revenge. And he practically has to be told who has been loyal and who betrayed 'him/them'. Evil through and through.

I forgive him NOTHING!

47. True, I don't exactly agree that this was all "planned" necessarily, but ...
... the GOP-controlled media is certainly conditioned to take advantage of every opportunity to portray every GOPer as a persecuted victim worthy of constant news coverage.

It worked for the GOP's benefit to ignore that memo that suddenly appeared late Friday showing that the GOP used their votes on the auto maker bridge loan bill to go after the UAW instead of helping working people.

Of course, that was yesterday, and the story (conveniently from the GOP-controlled media) is how Dumbya was almost hit by a shoe!

92. If they were going to stage something
I would think they would have someone shower him with rose petals. Or have a small child "spontaneously" run up and kiss him for "liberating" her country. Or a "spur of the moment" standing ovation. Something like that. I don't think some guy hurling a shoe at him would be the first thing that would spring to mind.

99. Why stage a stunt that really makes BushCo look all the more stupid, blind and impotent?
Edited on Mon Dec-15-08 08:25 PM by KrazyKat
Just IMO, but my first reaction to the shoe-business was along the lines of, "Okay, right-wingers, NOW do you get it??? The people of Iraq do NOT want the U.S. in their country!"

The U.S. involvement in the ME is the last embattled fly-speck of propaganda-ground that BushCo has to teeter upon with their base -- all that "spreading freedom" and "making us safer" crap -- but now, even that's been thoroughly undone.

For my money, the shoe-throwing incident and resulting demonstrations have served to underscore what a ***miserable failure*** this unlawful, immoral, wasteful war this has been.

on edit: typos!
