What will DU do when bush is out of office?
Where will all the outrage be focused. There are currently 21 shoe threads on the front page of GD. In just over a month, bushco won't be in the headlines very often.

. . . power (military and otherwise) always disarms itself easily and willingly. We can trust the politicians to do the right thing without our prodding and protests.

Right?

8. Isn't there anything that you care enough to advocate for or against?
Certainly, the new president won't be able to satisfy all interests and concerns to the degree that there won't be a need to express that opposition here and, hopefully, organize responses and guidance for Pres. Obama.

Not to mention the Bush holdovers and implants that need to be monitored and held accountable to the new administration's agenda. Also there are reams of Bush's autocratic constructions to dismantle. Between the legislative and executive initiatives, that effort should take years.

I really don't understand the notion that there's nothing for the Democratic Underground to organize around or express, just because we managed to elect a Democratic president. Our responsibility to vigilance shouldn't end with our votes cast.

18. why yes. I just posted a thread about how the gov't is about to do
a complete 180 on energy and environmental policy . And I said nothing about not criticizing Obama, or any of the other things you so blithely and FALSELY insinuate. I certainly didn't suggest that there's nothing to criticize.

Your posts to me are guided seem to guided purely by your emotional response to me.

23. I guess I don't understand the question you asked in the op
It reads like you believe there's nothing for DU to do except for cheerleading the new administration and sitting on our hands.

And, how can any of us who have been victim to your acerbic, ridiculing responses not regard you in that vein? I've been treated to several such posts from you in response to my advocacy and input over Mr. Obama's transition choices. But, hey, if you want to play the innocent today, then, more power to you.

26. um, sorry, you don't get to post things and
dictate the response. Yes, I've responded negatively to some of your posts. Hey, you even wrote this long apology about your diatribes. Why were you apologizing for nothing but "advocacy and input"?

play the innocent yourself. you do it all the time.

. . . the hostility I've grown accustomed to.

At least I didn't revert to your form and call this thread 'stupid' or any of the other adjectives you've used to dismiss my queries. I actually offered an argument, instead of a snippy one-liner about your character or who you supported in the primaries.

35. nasty?
I made the comments reflecting on your criticisms of my advocacy and input about the Obama transition. Those criticisms consisted of nothing more than a one-line insult. You claim to want to know what DU will do after Bush. You don't seem to be able to see past the 'shoe' threads.

That's an amazing query from you considering the way you've slammed my posts. I suggest that you just wait and see what develops from DUers. As, I said in my 'nasty' post, there are Bush constructions to be dismantled and Bush holdovers to monitor. There will also be several instances where the administration strays outside of the consensus here. Those efforts will certainly be advocated against.

Posters come to this board with a myriad of concerns. Plenty for you to practice your particular brand of critique. Plenty to advocate for and against and organize around. I just don't expect you to appreciate those exchanges in the spirit in which they're offered. I'd actually welcome being wrong on that score.

9. We go from playing offense to defense.
Edited on Mon Dec-15-08 10:55 AM by MarianJack
I remember the 8 year long mass rethuglican temper tantrum that started with rightist pundits and columnists referring to the "failed" Clinton administration when he'd been in office for LESS THAN 24 HOURS!

I have no fantasy that the righties will not do the same thing now. They're better organized and Obama has a much stronger position coming in. They will be very direct in their attacks but also very sneaky. WE will have to keep them "honest". We will also have to give Obama a huge benefit of the doubt. This is not only a Democratic thing. After the last 8 horrible years, America NEEDS a successful President.

PEACE!

16. DU will be around as long as Republicans live, breathe and spew.
I wish there were more shoe throwing threads. You can't make this shit up. And you know the more that people are interested in this, the more the press is going to ask Bush about it, and the more he's going to be pissed. He has been trying to polish his giant, stinking turd of a Presidency, especially by making that surprise trip to Iraq, yet all that anyone is going to remember is that some brave soul tossed shoes at his head. Happy Day!

32. An epic battle will commence between progressives & weenies.
The prize will be the 'soul of the Democratic Party'. If anybody can find it.

It might have become lost somewhere along the line like the Lost Dutchman's Mine or Atlantis.

Maybe for relief we could trade treasure maps.

Hopefully, the cults of personality, based on hopelessly compromised politicians & media figures can be killed off.

There'll be plenty of stuff to do.

Good days ahead.
