Caroline Kennedy for Sec of State--let Hillary keep her seat!
Okay, just kidding, but the argument I keep seeing here is that Kennedy is being trashed because she is rich and famous, but isn't that what got Clinton her seat too? I'm sure there are lesser knowns or unknowns that would be as qualified, but they would be at a disadvantage without the name recognition. Whoever becomes senator from New York, let's be glad it will be a Dem, we hope.

2. No, Hilary got elected...she had to prove herself...
...Caroline is being annointed...without previous experience, I am sure she will go down in flames in 2 years when she's done nothing in the Senate...appointing Caroline now is a sure way to give up a Dem seat in 2 years.

4. Hilary got elected... ...Caroline is being annointed...
Hillary had no real competition.

She might as well have been anointed.

6. Annointed is a little strong
I'm not sure on this, but from what I've read here at DU, hasn't Kennedy been a New Yorker longer than Clinton was when she ran for office. (Correct me if I'm wrong, I often am) And it would seem that Kennedy has has an extensive public life, even if she was never first lady.

7. Paul Wellstone had not held elective office before he went to the senate
he was an activist and a professor of political science at small private college.

I'm not sure what kind of experience a person needs to be a senator. Among other things, Caroline has been an advocate for public education and heaven knows education could use some more friends in Washington.

8. what the hell?
where is this jargon coming from? Have you investigated Caroline Kennedy, what she's done throughout her life..or is the "Kennedy" name, and what they work for that repulsive to you? Anyone who gets that seat will be "anointed".

9. Uhm......Clinton ran for and was elected to her Senate seat!
She had too campaign, raise funds for, debate for and fight for her senate seat. It wasn't just handed to her cause she was married to the then last legally elected President of the US!

11. so Hillary was Senator (D-Stepping Stone) and that's a reason to give it to Caroline?
And of course it will be a Dem - it's Paterson's choice and NY is one of the bluest states.
