For the last two years, the members of Democratic Underground have joined together in a year-end charity donation drive, benefiting America's Second Harvest -- the Nation's Food Bank Network. As we approach the end of the year, it's time again to help feed the hungry. Again, we are donating to help feed the hungry. America's Second Harvest has a new name: Feeding America. Their mission remains the same.


About Feeding America (Formerly America's Second Harvest)

Feeding America is the nation's leading domestic hunger-relief charity. Each year, the Feeding America network provides food assistance to more than 25 million low-income people facing hunger in the United States, including more than 9 million children and nearly 3 million seniors. Our network of more than 200 food banks serves all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.The Feeding America network secures and distributes more than 2 billion pounds of donated food and grocery products annually. The Feeding America network supports approximately 63,000 local charitable agencies that distribute food directly to Americans in need. Those agencies operate more than 70,000 programs including food pantries, soup kitchens, emergency shelters, after-school programs, Kids Cafes, Community Kitchens and BackPack Programs.

many holiday parties have donation boxes for food banks. The guests attending my party this last weekend were (as always) extraordinarily generous and the box overflowed. One couple donated a bag of food, and they have also doubled their usual monetary donation to our local food bank; and after discussions with extended family, instead of exchanging gifts with each other the entire family is sending that money to the food bank as well. One of my Republican friends who has been coming to my party for years was so taken with the food bank idea that she not only brings food and cash to donate, she started last year to volunteer at the food bank every week. That's my Dem friends for you, leading by example!

37. Kick. Today I donated my family's Christmas fund to the local food bank....

My kids are working adults, and the only one who needs shiny toys is my 4 y.o. grandson. I asked that they please direct anything they would have given me to either the food bank or the homeless shelter.

We're in Santa Barbara county. When I dropped off my check the lady in charge of donations told me that last year they served 100,000 people, but that this year it's up to at least 125,000. My son lives in Las Vegas, and he says it's really rough there, so many foreclosures. I asked him to please give in his own town.
