3. When I was ten years old and really into Calvin, I didn't get jokes like that.
Now that I do, the strip is that much funnier.

It's like understanding "Dilbert" now that I work in the corporate world.

14. Kinda OT, but my 4-year-old DEMANDS that i read Foxtrot to him.
Yesterday he sat for an hour and flipped through an entire Foxtrot collection.
He especially likes the panels where someone's shoes get knocked off.

.. of course, here he is at age 2, so go figure ;)

15. I understood them
due to hearing lots of history from my dad.

Didn't make the cartoons any funnier for me... but it made being a cynic much easier.

31. Same with Bloom County.
All of these comics were like premonitions.

4. That's just as timely as ever!
Calvin & Hobbes was a brilliant comic strip, in more ways than one. Nice commentary in this one!

6. Very
And sad that if you do something for free(like make your own drink), you are ruining the economy. I'm still somewhat shocked that there isn't someone to wake you up in the morning, another person to remove the blanket, another person to move your left leg, another person to move your right leg, another person to stand you up, another person move your left leg forward, another person to move your right leg forward, another person to turn the shower on, another person to squeeze the shampoo bottle, another person to put the shampoo in your hair, another person to rinse your hair, another person to turn the water off, etc, etc, etc, all through the day, every action specialized. That's full employment.

12. I thought Calvin was really onto something
When he was selling "A swift kick in the butt" for a dollar. Hobbes wasn't so sure that there was a market for such a service, but Calvin protested that everyone he knew needed one.

I should set up a booth. $$$

21. Few words areas truly spoken
Yet a war is waged on them everyday.

The artists are the new Amerian Injuns. Nothing more important inside a Plutocracy than keeping creative minds un-noticed and ignored.

17. I love Calvin and Hobbes
Especially now that I understand the subversive stuff. When I was a kid, I used to laugh at Calvin's antics as Spaceman Spiff and his adventures with Hobbes. Now I laugh at the stuff like Hobbes getting subverted by Suzy :D

No one has ever come close to Bill Watterson.

I have LOVED Calvin and Hobbes from the beginning and now so do my kids who read it to me every day over breakfast.

24. Every time I see a reference to Calvin & Hobbes here on DU,
I have to check to see if these sites are still on-line (it's an irresistable compulsion). Yep! They still are, and here they are:

Main collection: http://www.marcellosendos.ch/comics/ch/index.html

and Snow Art: http://www.angelfire.com/wa/zzaran/calvin.html
