I Don't Know If This Proves Global Warming or Not, But...
I moved to NY from Los Angeles in May 1996, and I've been here ever since. In that 11 year period, there's only been one, maybe two, major snowstorms, by major I mean 6 inches and above. This past winter has been the mildest that I've lived in on the East Coast.

I grew in Washington, D.C., and every year as a kid, we would routinely get at least two major snowstorms every year.

1. Same in MI
Big snow is pretty rare. I remember two-foot snows around thanksgiving, and snow piles at the end of the driveway that I couldn't see over to pull the car out.

But, I don't think 10 or 20 years proves anything. And if it did prove global warming, it wouldn't prove a cause. In terms of global climate, 10 or 20 years is a little "blip", not a trend.

The global warming evidence is more convincing when it comes from arctic or antarctic ice cores going back hundreds or thousands of years. And the cause is more convincing when air bubbles in that ice are analyzed for greenhouse-type gases.

2. when we wer growing up, the chicago winters were much snowier...
i was bornin 1961.

but i've read some research that says that those years were actually snowier than normal, and that the 'normal' winters around here aren't supposed to be all that snowy.

3. Grew up and still live in DC area
When I was a teen we would go X-country skiing in the parks and golf courses several times a year. We could also go up to Catoctin and ski the trails up there. I haven't pulled out my skis in years. There's so little snow that its not worth it.
