Miami HeraldIn a sign that relations between Cuba and Russia are the best they've been in decades, several Russian warships have found an unlikely harbor this week: Havana.
The destroyer Admiral Chabanenko and two support ships from a squadron that has been on a lengthy visit to Latin America will dock in Havana on Friday for a five-day stay, Russian navy spokesman Capt. Igor Dygalo told The Associated Press in Moscow.
It will be the first visit by Russian warships to the communist-led island since the 1991 Soviet collapse.
SEEN AS A CHALLENGE
Experts say the military deployment illustrates Russia's increasing interest in challenging Washington by enhancing relations with Latin American countries.
