Najaf Crowd Pelts US Troops with Shoes;
Al-Zaidi in Military Custody;
Bush Wars Cost $900 Bn.



Thousands of Iraqis demonstrated on Monday, demanding the release of Muntazar al-Zaidi, the journalist who threw shoes at Bush.

In the Shiite holy city of Najaf, south of Baghdad, crowds threw shoes at an American military patrol.

1. bring the troops home, they should have never been there
and i knew this would happen. about 8 yrs ago. and then again, when i saw the shoe throw.
lets get the hell out of there. all the troops, Obama..dont leave ANY of them there. f*ck the oil industries.

3. You know, this is becoming interesting.
This is a non-violent demonstration with the potential of turning into a non-violent revolution. The Iraqis are expressing their opinions of us and our occupation, and they are doing it in a way that we can't respond to with force. If they were shooting or bombing, we would fire back. But because this one journalist made such a public demonstration, the whole world is watching, and the US can't do anything.

This is worth watching.

If we try, we expose ourselves, just as the British did in India, just as the southern power structure did during Civil Rights. That's exactly why these types of revolutions can work--because the fiction of the benevolent dictator is exposed and destroyed. The true power and their true purpose are exposed.
