To the Editor,

As of today, the Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have cost $579,800,000,000 .... with no end in sight. I thought it would be interesting,in these trying economic times, to see the true value of these dollars as they relate to Americans. With thanks to the National Priorities Project, I’d like to show you where these trillions of dollars are going.

Taxpayers in Waxahachie will pay $69.1 million for total Iraq war spending approved to date. For the same amount of money, the following could have been provided: 15,784 people with health care for one year OR 52,637 homes with renewable electricity for one year OR 1,601 public safety officers for one year OR 1,213 music and arts teachers for one year OR 9,059 scholarships for university students for one year OR 824 affordable housing units OR 29,687 children with health care for one year OR 9,908 Head Start places for children for one year OR 1,296 elementary school teachers for one year OR 1,111 port container inspectors for one year.

That is just Waxahachie. This doesn’t even begin to take into consideration the human toll of war or the toll on the Iraqis. After all these facts, you can’t still ethically support this war. Please petition your senators and congressmen to bring a swift end to the occupations. It is the moral, ethical thing to do.

1. Oh please...
Right wingers do not care about moral and ethical. They still believe Saddam Hussein had WMD's and posed a huge threat to global stability. They only care about being right and are willing to throw any amount of money at it to prove themselves.

You, on the other hand, write a banger letter and I raise a glass to you! Nice job. :-)

I'm sincerely hopeful that your letter will cause people to at least think of this war in terms of human lives.

11. My deepest sympathies on the passing of your father.
Write those LTE's! Doing something, anything, as it will provide you something to focus on, to pour your positive energy into it... and even if it only gets one more person in your very red part of Texas to think a bit, to start to question, it will be worth it.
