1. Me.
It's about 0 and windy here in Minneapolis, and my old house is cold and drafty. I'm wrapped in a blanket with a cat on my lap, but I'm still COLD and I don't like it.

6. I realize this is a sauna for folks in Frostbite Falls
but it's barely managed to get into the low 30s here in central NM and more snow is moving in after yesterday's day long snowfall.

It's not the cold, it's the damp cold that crawls into your bones and makes you miserable.

Now I'm off to make more tea.

30. 20 degrees in Flint
Wind chill is 11.

At least I have electricity, today.

Yesterday we had a power outage, due to high winds. I had to bail out the sump hole, to keep the basement from flooding. Since I had no idea how long the power would be out, I figured I'd put the water in the bath tub, in case I needed it to flush the toilet. Once the power came back on, I forgot about the water, until one of my cats did one of her nightly inspection rounds and jumped into the tub. She did NOT expect, or appreciate the icy water surprise.

24 hours later, I am finally off of her ignore list.

it's an almost balmy 27 degrees and we even have heat and electricity after being without both for nearly four days from that nasty ice storm last week.

Not that we didn't have a contingency plan like marine batteries hooked up to the pellet stove, and a generator for other stuff....but the batteries crapped out after 11 hours and the generator blew its carburetor after running for 20 minutes. Uh, oh.....

I really feel awful for the people who still haven't gotten power back and may have to wait till next week....

49. Yes. It's 53 and wet and SoCal houses just don't have a lot of insulation. Instead we have glass....
I've got the gas heater running and I'm bundled up. Trying to count my blessings because we desperately need the rain and it's raining.

Truthfully though I have been thinking a lot about my sis and her husband who just moved to a farm in upstate New York. They're wintering over in a mobile home that was on the property and will start building a house in the spring. She really wants to get off the grid. Meantime.... I wonder if they got caught in that blizzard and if they are as okay as she claims they are.

I'm thinking even more about all those in our DU community who are seeking shelter this winter; that situation makes me cry. As a result, my family (except for my 4 y.o. grandson) is getting a donation to the Food Bank or Homeless Shelter in their names. It's all I can do.
