Commuting home listening to NPR today and here is my RANT..
Edited on Tue Dec-16-08 06:34 PM by Jokinomx
They were reporting about the seven Bosnian men who have been detained at Gitmo for seven years. A Bush appointed conservative judge ruled they had NO reason to charge these men and ordered them released immediately and even warned this administration not to appeal and prolong this injustice. This alone pissed me right off. The Bosnian Supreme Court way back when determined these men had been falsely charged.... the Bosnian prosecutor also agreed. Yet we arrested them and put them in prison at Gitmo. Now that really pissed me off more.... yet the thing that really got me swearing alone in my car during my commute was the fact that five of the seven were released and returned home. Not on a commercial carrier...but hand cuffed and hooded for the twenty hour flight back home to freedom....

For God's Sake....whoever ordered to hood and shackle these men should be fired... arrested and detained for an indefinite time period...like SEVEN FUCKING years.

1. I want these heartless bastards to know the same misery they
have caused. If there is a hell, theirs should be a never ending flight, shackled and hooded - stops only for refueling and waterboarding.

9. whoever ordered this treatment violated their human rights
and their oath to the constitution. All persons are entitled to the safeguards of the constitution when detained by the US, the court found there was not enough evidence to hold them, they would have to be found guilty to be punished yet our government continued to punish them.

GOd says "So you voted for Bush two times in a row. Well, lucky thing you were so righteous. We have a special plane trip for you - Boy are you gonna love it!"

Then and only then do they find out it is the most hellacious trip ever.

16. And it would be like Groundhog Day, the Nightmare
If there is a waking period, each time they wake they think they are going to take a glorious plane ride only to have to continue to relive the horrors over and over and over and over

because they DIDN'T do anything & made the bastards who kidnapped & held them for so long look bad.

7. K&R - This is absofuckingloutly disgraceful. What has Bush done to our Military?
What is the mindset of the men (and women) in our military that would cause them to do this? What on earth have we become?

8. No reason to charge..
but reason to shackle and hood? Guess the escorts don't want to be ID'd. There has got to be an international court that can stand up for these people. 7 years of being locked up and treated like dog shit in another country can not be excused. Maybe the American people, and the U.S. Government can excuse it, but the world must not.

10. I thought your rant was going to be a much deserved rant about NPR.
I listened to a couple of NPR shows today, which I rarely listen to, and I was fuming the whole time at how NPR soft pedals on every story about or relating to Bushco's atrocities.

21. I didn't seem to hear anything about this with the other big media outlets...
Yes... NPR can be soft...but at least they talk about issues like this one. It has been totally ignored by our so call "liberal" media.

Thanks for your imput...:toast:

13. k&r. It's time to start dealing with our national shame.
This is but another sad chapter in a long book of horrors committed in our names over the past eight years. Better to bring it out into the light of day, as painful as that may be.

:(

17. I had an unpleasant dinner recently
The host was retired NSA & naval intelligence who went on an unprovoked rant to the effect that the government knew what they were doing and that the imprisonment of those at Gitmo was justified because they were guilty and dangerous.

Now I get to email the SOB and tell him how wrong he is.

A federal judge ordered the release of five Bosnian citizens Thursday who have been held for seven years at the U.S. military base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

Judge Richard Leon, a conservative Bush appointee, found that there was no evidence to justify the detention of the men, who are all native-born Algerians who moved to Bosnia in the early 1990s.

He said the government had only an unreliable tip that the men were planning to engage in terrorism with al-Qaida.

22. It still amazes me that somehow this administration seems
to think just because your not a U.S. citizen you don't deserve fundamental rights as our privileged society.

I am happy to know that at least NPR has helped you hopefully open another persons eyes to the double standard this administration has shown.

Edited to add: WARNING! Pissed off Alaskan rant to be added forthwith (love all of you)

Antonin Scalia, second most senior United States Supreme Court Associate Justice (I use that word in
the context with this inhuman, inhumane vulture very loosely):

“Mere factual innocence is no reason not to carry out a death sentence properly reached”

Appointed during the first neocon revolution by Ronnie Rayguns.

And you expected? After the Patriot Act, the declaration of an illegal war against a country we had no business invading? After the SElection of 2000?

I saw this shit coming from the Raygun years in California. It's the first time I've ever cried about a presidential election. I didn't even cry about Nixon, for Chrissake! I'm all for honest competition in elections, in politics, and even had some agreement with some Republican stances WAY back when. Until..........

Give me a fuckin' Republican a la Ike any day. Once the Christian Neocon Fundy Right took over the Republican Party, it became a party of death and will remain so until they - if ever - get back on track. Until they dump the fundies with their hate for anything not white, right, straight and male. Until they dump the idea that women have no rights, nor do the middle class, nor do the poor - unless it's the right to serve in their wars for profit. Until they put "conservative" back into "neocon". Until they get rid of the Newts, the Roves, the Hannitys, the Rush's, the Coulters, and the hate, they are no longer to be considered a legitimate representation of any REAL American of any political bent.

Sorry, Jok, didn't mean to rant, too. But dammit, they've made me angry, as has the MSM. The MSM is treating this like a FUCKING VICTORY for Bush when it is actually a WAR CRIME. Hooded and chained when they committed NO crime? If that isn't a strong, strong reminder of Nazi Germany (thanks, Prescott Bush, for your contributions there...) I don't know what is. Fascist bastards.

One more time to the Bush family (ALL of them):

FUCK YOU AND THE FUCKING NAZI MONEY YOU RODE IN ON
