Poll question: How many DU'ers have managed to Save and how many are Under Water with Nothing...and some Inbetween
Edited on Thu Dec-18-08 08:59 PM by KoKo01
Just posting a poll/survey of all of us DU'ers. We are a big group...and it would be interesting to see how it all breaks down. Age and memories of Great Depression for some of us older (with tales from our Grandparents) might be a factor. The economy that only rewarded "Top Down" for a few decades might have another group and the very young, starting out might be another.

But, I'm not doing Demographics to Age category. Just curious about how folks here have been living for the past couple of Decades.

1. damn, the poll changed WHILE I was voting...
...so now my vote is in a category that isn't remotely like the one I voted for. I voted Other, which became Homeless and Wiped Out, which I am not.

None of the categories really seem right. I do not use consumer credit cards and have no consumer credit debt. That fits your first category, but if that makes me a saver, I'm a spectacularly unsuccessful one. I live paycheck to paycheck-- always within my means, but always on the verge of disaster. There just isn't any way out that I've been able to find.

3. Other.. I'm in trouble, but its not because I was caught up in hype.. I've
just had unforseen bills that added up.. At times had to borrow to live from pay check to pay check, pay for my step son's court costs, etc. I didn't get in debt because of frills. I'm in debt because jobs don't pay for the cost of living.

4. I fool myself into saving...
I charge myself for each transaction in the checking account and pretend that I don't have an overage when I balance the checking account.. Then I transfer it into a saving account that is harder to access.

living on unemployment and the last of the severance. Expect to lose home if job not found in next few months. Too depressed to open 401K statements.

6. I'm close to losing my condo (home) and a saver like your first choice

I struggle now paying my mortgage each month because my outside revenues
are drying up because of the economy. I don't have any credit cards or
car payment.

I'm a sustainable lifestyle/saver person.
I own acreage and house w/ a energy source and
am doing fine with free lance jobs and no debt,
credit cards or anything that I owe

8. no savings, recently paid off all cc debt, small balance on heloc
you didn't have that in the poll. i DID have plenty of credit. i don't know what my borrowing ability is now. hopefully, i won't need to know.

my abode will probably be my retirement $. i may have to wait a little longer for the value to go back up but it will . . . location, location, location. :headbang:

9. Other:
I have 2 credit cards that I don't pay off every month that I've stopped using and am in the process of paying off.

I have an affordable mortgage.

I have toys...full cable package, big cellphone packages for me and my son, gas-hog car, etc.

I eat out at least twice a week (usually 3 or 4 times).

However, I have a secure job with a decent income and I max out my 401k (the IRS limit) every year. I'm saving, but not in the bank.

I'm doing OK, but will be better once these credit cards are payed off.
