2. Then the car companies need to ask if the US government is
going to fund the health care and R&D that most foreign countries provide to their automakers.

11. Yep - something they never mention when they parade the "$X labor costs per car" bullshit.
OF COURSE it's cheaper to build a car in a country that provides Universal Health Care for all its citizens!

Where are you reading this?

This is a 3 year loan with no strings attached to the Detroit 3 and the United Auto Workers. More than we could have hoped for.

8. It states the automakers have to "bring their costs in line with non-US automakers..."
That means paying the union workers NON-union wages. Bush just said it.

12. It is far more than that, it means eliminating "Legacy Costs"
People that served faithfully for thirty years and retired expecting to receive their full retirement as they worked for and were promised, plus people that became disabled on the job. Remember most foreign auto makers have not been in America long enough to have accumulated any "Legacy Costs" Very few people have retired from any foreighn plant operating in America. This plan wants the American Auto Makers to eliminate those "Legacy Costs" (Retirement payments) that have been earned and promised..

15. All these "targets" are negotiable, and at any rate the enforcement is left to the Obama admin
This is actually a big win for Detroit. The Corker conditions are all non-binding, and the cash is forthcoming. It's a better deal than we were looking at in the Senate.
