let the current bill die in the Senate.

When the supplemental bill for Afghanistan/Iraq funding comes up, tack on the minimum wage bill as an amendment.

The would force the repubics into a corner.

2. Why not also insert an amendment pegging the min. wage to congressional pay raises or inflation?
Honestly, why is it that almost nothing has been mentioned by Democratic leaders on the issue of allowing the minimum wage to resolve itself if, for instance, Congress votes itself a pay raise? The cynic tells me the reason they won't do this is because Dems want to have the minimum wage as a political football every few years, and I don't think such behavior is justified at all.

4. The Senate is willing to pass the MinWage if it contains several new provisions...
... they could just tack those same provisions to the Iraq funding bill along with the MinWage bill and be happy.

5. Yes, but wouldn't that give the Dems a reason not to pass the funding bill?

6. I suppose. Would that cut funds for troops currently there though...
... that would not play well.

7. no - the funding is going to get passed
yeah, there will be some noise, soundbites etc. - and maybe eventually Congress will close the bushwar checkbook - but that won't happen this time around

probably won't happen until next year when the (s)election campaigns get going.

besides, even if congress declares the war is over and wants to bring the troops home - they still need money for getting those troops home, closing things downs etc.

8. I agree with you

But my question was would they risk giving the Dems a reason to balk about passing the funding. The majority of Americans want the minimum wage bill passed, as such I don't think they'd be overly upset if it were tacked onto the funding bill. I doubt most will see a need to tack on the tax cuts for businesses, especially if it could slow the funding from being passed.

Not that I expect any of this to occur, I'm just thinking for the sake of keeping myself occupied. :)

9. some may decided to vote against the supplemental funding
but I think they will be in the minority at this point

I think it would be harder for the repubics to vote against the funding than it will be for Dems to vote for it

in the previous congress - repubics threw in the Inheritance tax repeal as a "poison pill", it was poisonous enough to derail the minimum wage

so the question with my idea is: how poisonous is a mimimum wage amendment to the supplemental funding for a bushwar?

is it enough to force enough repubics to vote against 'supporting the troops'?
