The Rev. Fred Plumer
As I was reading all the posts about Rick Warren, I was wondering whether there are any clerics (Christians) who support gay rights.

And then I remember Rev. Fred Plumer.

In 2000, while we lived in California, another ballot measure to ban gay marriage was on the ballot.

When I read that a rally would take place at Irvine United Congregational Church, I decided to attend to, at least, contribute to the critical mass. There was no need. The church, in super conservative Orange County, the current home of Rick Warren, was overflowed with people and there were many speakers.

Before the program started, Rev. Plumer welcomed in a few words, concluding: This is your home.

So I googgled Fred Plumer and found him, not surprising, at the Center for Progressive Christianity.

Perhaps the Rev. Plumer can be invited to Washington D.C. for a real invocation that will bless all Americans.

Even at the end of the official events, even at a different location than the Mall.

2. There are many Chrisitans who support gay rights
And whole denominations of church who support gay rights. The interfaith Alliance was a huge supporter of our campaign against our states anti-gay marriage amendment, and we had a full page ad in Boise paper with something like twenty five clergy who opposed the bill (this is idaho, so that's a large number)

3. Then, perhaps, there should be an alternataive invocation in D.C
by a cleric who accepts all people as "god's people" who would spread love and unity.

Perhaps some DUers who are going to be there could start this.
